Hi guys,

How many hours would/should a workshop charge to replace:
1. The front subframe on a KJ
2. The rear subframe on a KJ

I've done a search but have not come to any definitive answer as to what is needed.

For the rear if using a L/W series subframe besides the rotor to rotor assembly I read I need the handbrake cables. Can someone elaborate on this (ie, is this the cable from the handbrake level onwards, or is it just some cables near/around the subframe?

And for the front, again besides the rotor to rotor assembly, is there a need to change the power steering rack, pump or anything like that?

Any advice is appreciated

I fitted a TW sedan rear sub frame to a TJ sedan and didn't need to change the hand brake cables. All up it took me about 4 hours, swapping from one to the other (2 removals/2 installs).

I think you don't need to replace the handbrake cables unless you want the L/W handbrake setup which I hear is much better.

So, if a subframe is supplied on a pallet, around 2 hours is reasonable for a workshop to do the swap?

If you get a TL/TW subframe with the hubs attached you will need to use the TL/TW handbrake cable as the eyelet for the h/b cable is on the hub.

Those cables go from the T Piece under the center console, through the chassis via grommets and into the hub, so you need the entire cable.

2 hours for the rear swap is reasonable yes, I did mine in about 3 with the rear just on jackstands.

For the front, Id suggest putting the TL/TW P/S rack in while you are at it.

Thanks peaandham for clarifying the cable issue.

Can you tell me why you suggest installing the power steering rack? Is it any different to the KJ and earlier rack?

Much nicer feel to it, tends to feel more "solid"

What about the pump, can I leave the same one in?

Can anyone suggest how many hours a workshop would take to fit the front subframe in including PS rack?
