Hi Guys,

First the good news.
I took my 380 to Liverpool exhausts and they put on a new rear pipe (Hurricane). They also attached 3 small brackets near the weld and flange area to add some support. They then did the same to the old pipe and gave them to me as well. I was ovewhelmed when they told me it would cost nothing.

They explained the following:
1. They said this is the first time this oproblem has occurred !?
2. Mitsubishi engines run hot and the rear bank is stuck between the motor and the firewall Causing it to heat up more "See the paint has come off already" (well duhh!!)
3. There is nothing else they can do
4. As it was less than 12 months old it was still under warranty

Solution? My exhaust guy is going to make up a special pipe that will take cold air from near the front of the car and blow on to the rear pipes. I'll let you know how it goes.

Now the bad news.
There is now an audible and annoying vibration at the point where two pipes meet. It occurs whether the engine is hot or cold. my exhaust guy was hoping it was a temporary thing and he said to wait a couple of weeks for the pipes to settle down. unfortunately they haven't. He suggested that it would not be a good idea to weld them together as it would create another weak spot.

Has anyone found this problem? can you please offer a solution?
Appreciate any helpful suggestions.

Fooz and I had the same problem with the two pipes touching & vibrating. With mine it was only when the engine was cold, once it warmed up they no longer touched. Counter-intuitive, as I would have thought that hot pipes would have a greater diameter than cold pipes. Anyway, both Fooz and I had small 90 degree brackets welded across the two pipes, to hold them apart by a few mm. Problem solvered, and no indication of creating a weak spot.

Thanks for that. I'll let my guy know and get it done.:woot:

get two angle brackets slightly offset, then drill a hole in them for fitment of nut and bolt, that's what I did.

if you weld them together then you'll have trouble separating them later....cause eventually all the welds from pipe to head flange will require re-welding on the firewall side...

or you may want to pull the drive shaft out....

Don't buy RPW extractors.:io:
