Hello,
Quick question I was trying to find out without much luck. Were there any 3rd gens that were built WITHOUT aircon? Basically part of the project I am doing requires the removal of the aircon, and instead of just setup a custom tensioner/belt setup, was curious if any 3rd gen engines (6G72 or 6G74) came out without aircon and could use a standard belt setup from these models?
Cheers

They did have the base model magna (te) as optional regarding a v6 and air conditioning, but you'd be hard pressed to find one that ordered a v6 but didn't order aircon, plenty of 4 cylinder te ones around without aircon though

For those 3rd gens without A/C I'm curious as to what was there in place of the A/C button? A button that did something else or just a blank? I tried to find close up photos on carsales without any luck.

Seeing it is a BASE model that lacks A/C, you would expect a blanking plate.

Cheers mate, trying to find pics of the setup or something of the sort.
Interestingly enough, on the supercheapautos website *parts guide* it has a belt for "No A/C" listed under the normal TJ magna etc.. but no point getting the belt as not sure how it runs, whether just a pully bolted on etc

pretty sure you'll find they all had aircon.

My brother owned a Te without air con and with a 4 cylinder back in the day, they existed, briefly

Having seen other Mitsubishi models without A/C, the button is there but it's completely black and cannot be pressed

I had a TH executive which was "Upgraded" to the 3.5 Motor which also according to the docs I got as the 2nd owner - included Trip computer and Air Conditioning. So yes maybe the 4Cyl TE/TF and base model TH didn't have a A/C in the poverty pack?

some TE'S and possibly TF'S had no aircon.instead they ran a smaller belt.

I understand there could be a small belt, but the way the belt runs, it looks like I would need to add another pully or tensioner to make it work? Hence was chasing what the setup and belt was for it to work :)

Jamie, BS mate. The last Magna not to have Power Steering was the TS Exec used for fleet and the last Magna not to have Air Con was the same TS. There was not an "optional" TE 4cyl with no aircon. The cost to engineer the correct components to bypass the aircon on just a few cars would have cost more than to just leave it there. Remember there are several systems in the car that the aircon will affect if not there.
John, The difference in the belt on these cars came from an additional idler pulley which Mitsubishi then deleted due to noise it was making. From memory these cars ran a 6PK1255 belt, once the additional idler was removed went back to the 6PK1195 belt used on all later cars. IF you just take the compressor off the car it is not possible to simply fit a smaller belt as it foules with itself due to the new path it runs, you would need to engineer a bracket with an additional or replacement idler pulley

I think it was simply a mandatory option for the V6 cars at the very least.
I do know the first of the TE cars had a painted verada ashtray because the local supplier wasn't online in time and the dashboards in first few hundred cars were from Japan and had a blanking plate where the parkbrake handle lives in the JDM cars. Don't know why I know this but there you are.

Thanks Mal, this is exactly what I was trying to see if I could avoid otherwise I will go about setting up a bracket and idler.
So looks like its off to setup that now!
Cheers guys
