Hi and thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
Went down to local mitsubishi dealer today to find out about a air con compressor idler pulley and bearing
was told you cant just buy the pulley and bearing need a complete kit .. this is the part that rocked me $675.00, he then suggested a new compressor at $1795.00. When I went outside I looked in a mirror to see if I had Idiot on my forehead
Is there anyone out there who can tell me if its possible to get the pulley and bearing.
It is a 1999 Veradah KH... build date is Dec/99

Can you buy these parts aftermarket?
I havent looked to see how you would go about replacing anything on the unit but I would just get a 2nd hand compressor complete.
Good deals here....

However I am also not sure if the Verada AC pumps are different to the Magna ones, perhaps ask the people at Mitsi's if they are the same part no. I use a KF Verada loom in my TE so Id imagine it shouldnt matter.

According to the parts guy at mitsubishi, the magna ones are different and they changed the design slightly on the verada from 98 to 03, you have to give them the chassis no so they can work out which one it is. He gave me a print out of the compressor and parts I need, but they don't sell the just the pulley and bearing you have to buy the whole kit at $675. I don't know if he was trying to rip me off or just sell some of their old stock.
I will try Repco and Burston tomorrow.

I vaguely remember someone replacing an idler bearing with the compressor still in the car. If you can get the bearing out, you can take it to a bearing shop to match its number. May be worth a search, or someone can put up a link.

I've found prices at Mits dealers over the years are always high. Always have been, seems to be part of the business model.
They just slowly shift them over the years. I'm sure its a similar story for the other brands too.
I get a little jealous of the Chinese, over there labour and parts are so cheap that the middle class can afford to just throw their cars around and regularly swap parts out when damaged. Cars older than 10 years are junked.
Puting labour costs aside, I cant see any reason why these parts shipped over here should be marked up so much and ACCC should be looking at it.

pay a visit to the local airconditioning mob.. (automotive)
where i used to work the boss would swap the bearings\pulley on the compressor if the pump was still good and in a servicable condition.
however that required removal from the car. so you might be up for a regas after
also you'd find he can get a new(aftermarket) compressor cheaper than genuine anyways in my opinion.
