View Full Version : Dash Speaker Replacement? Mits speakers are ugly!

I am not a fan of the standard "carpet covered" dash speakers in 3rd Gens. IMHO they look bloody awful. I would prefer a black metal mesh covering of sorts. I even prefer to remove the speakers and leave in the standard Magna blank vinyl covers.
Has anyone experimented with, or know of "better looking" speakers from other vehicles that fit and may be used as a substitute?
Surely I can't be the only person who thinks they are ugly. :ninja:

Simply remove the speakers, then carefully pry pry the small tabs holding the grille onto the speaker, remove fabric, clean up grille, paint black, reassemble, beautiful looking speakers now, will post up a photo later on

Cool. What vehicle did you source the mesh grill from?
I would love to see the pics.

Matches the verada sail tweeters perfectly.

That looks much better. I did realize there was mesh under the carpet material.
Thanks Maggie, I guess I know what my next project is :woot:

I like the carpet/fabric look, looks classier imo.

I guess it would be a bland old world if we all liked everything exactly the same. :)

I had blanks but swapped my upper dash loom for a Verada loom (which gives you the speaker wires) and now have speakers.

So these are in addition to ones in the bottom of the doors and the tweeter neer the mirrors?

Yeah, generally they are black, but the ones I had were dirty and rusty for some reason, no matter, quickly spayed with gloss black and it looks perfect
