As part of the RW I needed to get the rear exhaust looked at as the tips had rust holes in them, the cheapest option was to have two chrome tips put on. I did so and to my surprise as the chrome tips are longer then the original tips pop out an inch or so from the rear bumper the car is quieter inside while the exhaust note has a nice crackle to it.

You should take up Organ Pipe tuning... There is actually quite a lot of physics to do with standing waves in pipes - apparently you have managed to change the tuning so the tubes are not resonating so much at the Revs you use so it sounds quieter - the crackle - maybe you just never listened for it before I doubt the free flow of gasses has changed.
