Hello everyone,

I just recently bought a 2nd hand Mitsubishi Magna Executive TJ and I'm having a strange problem.

Sometimes when I push the "lock" button on the remote the car honks twice instead of locking. The only way to lock the car when it does this, is to use the key in the car door.

This doesn't happen every time I want to lock the car. I'd say it happens about 50% of the time. As far as I can tell all the doors are properly closed when I try to lock (the open door light on the dashboard is off).

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

This is telling you the car thinks something is not closed properly, if you are certain all doors, boot and bonnet are properly closed, then you likely have a faulty switch somewhere

When this happens is the door open light in the dash light up? If it is its a door switch. If its not then the bonnet switch is probably faulty.

No warning lights were on. But after receiving Ribec's post I went and opened and closed the boot. This seems to have fixed the issue. Perhaps the boot doesn't have a warning light...

I had a similar problem last week. The car had sat for nearly a week, when I pressed the green button to open it on a really cold morning it beeped as if I tried to lock it with a door open. It done the same thing in the afternoon when I opened it again. Hasn't done it since but had got me confused.
