Looks as if you have to replace the gasket on the exhaust pipe.

Is not uncommon on these, often the gasket is at fault, sometimes the studs also strip as well allowing the gap to open up

When you think about it, the manifold is bolted by at least 8 bolts, over quite a length and width. The exhaust pipe is bolts by 2 or 3 botls and presses only over a small area. There is potentially a lot of leverage on the exhaust pipe flange, and this could easily cause problems. This is why they typically brace the exhaust pipe futher along the pipe. The manifold gasket will also be cooled by being in contact with the water cooled head, whereas the pipe gasket has no such cooling. Rarely would you get a failed manifold gasket, unless someone had been there before you and not put it back together properly.
