I was just about to drive up to Vic Roads to register the KL when I see the SRS Light is on, this was coming on intermittently when I first bought the car but it's been clear for months .....

I still have 2 weeks on the RW left to get the light issue fixed if anyone has any ideas I can try over the weekend before I give up and take it to a dealer.

Things I have done so far.

Unclipped the seat covers under the seat.
Disconnected the battery for 1 hour.

I needed another wheel for the RW but that was put on over 1 week ago and they put my airbag centre back on.

Check the side airbag connectors (yellow) under the seat while the ignition is off. These sometimes have issues due to seat movement/objects being placed under the seats which then push against the plug connection. Do not turn the ignition on whilst any of the SRS system is disconnected as the system will log a fault and the SRS light will remain on till the fault is rectified/fault cleared in the SRS module by someone with a MUT scanner (dealer).

Note: Don't use a multimeter on any of the airbag connectors as it may trigger the airbag

Disconnecting battery will not clear codes for SRS even if fixed, either seats are an issue or you need to get it scanned

clock spring issue when they changed the steering wheel perhaps?

Not if the light is on and then off, once a drivers or pass side air bag reads a fault the light will stay on until both the issue are fixed and the codes are cleared with a scan tool, simply fixing it will not clear a light

My GTVi was doing this when I had it. To "fix" it I would just roll the drivers seat forward and back.

I'd recommend getting it fixed properly as I don't imagine an airbag going off would be a pleasant experience.

The theory I was given was that it was a bad earth? I can't recall exactly sorry, but I ended up with a whole new TL seat from which I'd planned to use to fix the issue.

TLDR; My GUESS = airbag wiring, near/in the seat is bad, needs fixing.

I had the same issue 2 years ago when SRS light came on, out of the blue and stayed on.
Firstly Madmagna is right in that even if the fault is fixed the light wont extiguish until a scanner clears the fault code.
You must get a scan, ring around a few auto electricians for scanning price but make sure they can read the MUT-II codes and can interpret the number. If there is a fault they wont be able to clear it until fault is fixed. My fault code was 92. Left side sensor trouble, it was the crash sensor in passenger door pillar, down low near seat belt retractor spool. It must have just gone out of spec limits and logged a fault code.
Rang around dealers for a new one, average price was $400!!. Then dealer mentioned that they had never sold one in 8 years, so suggested i go to wrecker.
Eddywreck in Adelaide sold me one from an undeployed Air Bag wreck for $45, changed it over but light still on. Took it back to auto electrician and he reset the code and all fixed.
Important thing is without a scanner you are feeling in the dark, i spent hours on this trying to save money. Please get a scan.

My usual auto leckie is looking at it Monday, I have booked it in at a dealer midweek just in case he can't sort it out.

Yeah, this is obviously very different to the issue I had. I hope I haven't given OP the bum steer, or false hope.

My SRS light would illuminate at completely random intervals. I would just move the seat forward and then back. The light would switch off.

I have a scan tool, and I remember using it on the GTVI, but it never threw a code?

Maybe my issue was something only vaguely related, as in not related to the airbag circuit, rather the SRS light circuit? If that's even possible.

Good luck with fixing the issue, and I hope you come out of it without a big hit to the hip pocket.

The trouble with MITSI TW Maqnas is they don't use the world wide standard On Board Data (OBD) ( I think I got that Right) standard for vehicle codes.
Make sure your leckie can read the MITSI MUT-II codes. My first leckie scan gave me code number (92) but leckie could no interpret what that number meant. I had problems finding the code list of numbers on OZ sites.
I ended up searching for Mitsi Diamante in USA sites and came up with complete list of codes easy.
Try and negotiate with the leckie for a customer discount if you need to revisit him to clear the code after any fault is fixed.
Unfortunately you will need a scan to find fault and a second one to clear fault code after defective component is repaired. Almost worthwhile for a few mitsi mates to pitch in and buy a scanner to share around for moments like these.
If you need to replace anything , try the wreckers first. aT AROUND10-20-% of new price its worth the punt IMHP. Good Luck.

My auto leckie called today it's the passenger front seat belt, he was worried about getting a bone colored belt but I told him I'm not fussed it he can't find a bone one and to go with black if need be.

OK I went for a drive to Ballarat Vicroads office this morning to Register Vera in Vic...... after my minor panic with the SRS Light the biatch didn't even look at the dash she just searched and found the engine number.

But it's all done and legal now.
