Im getting a new head unit very shortly, I wont be running any speakers off it, they will come of the amps, but I'm after a fairly high quality unit, it doesnt have to have a eq or anything as I have a stand alone one, anyone got any recomendations, I was thinking of looking at Alpine units, wont be spending more than $500 maybe 600

I just got the Alpine head unit model 9831....not sure how it performs but i picked it up for $550 it originally on sale at 649$...Go to onlinecarstereos.com and check out the reviews.

was also looking at the Pioneer 5650 which is cheaper however doesnt look as good as the alpines.

i get mine installed on monday!

Go for an ALpine, Clarion, or just a Pioneer

theyre the brands i would stick with. ALpine definately gives you bang for buck. u will be able to pick up a pretty decent one for $500-600. but if u wwant better, and are cool with econd hand, o that

check out www.caraudioaustralia.com

eclipse made a pretty good deck too, you can get CD5444 for 700 now, retail is 999 iirc, and it's comparable to alpine 9835, or go my way get CD3434 for 500 :D , but them i'm biased to eclipse :P

I like the look of those eclipse decks and a little different since most people have more known name brands? where did you get yours from? who retails them?

i got an alpine 9830 bout 2 months back for 500 all i can say is that it was a much better choice over the originaly idea of a 5650, more features looks good and has a cool little tilty thing (wank value++ !) tho if i had thought about it i would have got a 9831 so i could change the colour to blue so fit in wit hthe theme of my car, ahwell cant win them all but im happy with the head unit!

All the guys at Alberts (http://www.alberts.com.au/) are fantastic, go in and see Bruce or Dave @ Alberts Myaree (http://www.albertsmyaree.com.au/) and they'll help you out! Top blokes!

Just upgraded/updated the "factory" Eclipse (http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/) system in my Ralliart with some nice new Eclipse (http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/) speakers from their point-source range. Deffinately great value is the Eclipse (http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/) gear, especially at 20% off.

i would go with the alpine unit.
For that amount of money your not going to get a very good eclipse. IN fact for that price youll get their entry level HU which isnt really all that good. Eclipse's more expensive HU cant be betten but you have to spend like a grand for one. Some of the clarion HU are ok but they have similar problem as eclipse. Cheap ones arent that good while the good ones are pretty good. Pioneer are pretty good but i dont like their new ones as theyve recently sold out their component manufactoring. Basically pioneer dont make them anymore, NEC makes the components and pioneer puts a brand name on it. The Alpines on the other hand are good from the ground up as they use the same mechanisms for all their HU including their cheaper ones. Hence my original statement. go alpine.

I think I'll go with the eclipse as its a little less main stream and they have just reduced there prices the 444 used to retail at $999 but they have reduced the price and there is a current 20% of special at the moment so they are only around $640, has almost all the features the top alpine units have, and I have a 12 band kenwood eq with sub cross overs (half din) to go with it so it should do everything I need it to do

Thanks for everyones input ;P I'll let ya know what I think of it once its installed
