I am on the lookout for a ralliart as an update and have made some general first enquiries with a guy who is selling one locally. I asked him about the service history of the car which he said was up to date but he also mentioned that last year just prior to it not being used any longer?? that the transmission was replaced with a refurbished one which he alleged was a common issue with these cars at times.
Can any ralliart owners, or anyone for that matter confirm or deny this fact. Was this a common issue on these cars at any particular mileage, or was it a common fault in them, or is he perhaps hiding bigger issues.
Any advice would be appreciated.

A common issue with magnas up until the TW (TW révision only) was the wave spring breaking as it was weak. Also the oil pump bearing can lead to transmission failure. I recommend for piece of mind that you purchase an aftermarket transmission oil cooler as they will improve the life of the gearbox 10 fold as a lot of failures are heat related. Hope this helps! Jealous of you mate, always wanted a ralliart magna! maybe when I have enough cash I can buy one for myself :-D

I haven't bought one yet (I wish). This is one that is for sale in my area which had the aforementioned transmission swap. Didn't know whether this issue should be a warning and put me off considering this car.

Snatch it up while you can! That's a common problem and shouldn't put you off the car. The Ralliart magnas are amazing to drive (oonly driven one, once.) They are a testimony to aussie engineering and will be super rare in 5-10 years time!

I was under the impression that the ralliarts were turbo, and from what i can find they arent. Have an extra 15kWs more power than my sports tho, plus many more features im sure

Yeah, Ralliarts are N/A but have better tuned engines and a few extra upgrades than the vrx and standard magna. If I remember correctly the posted 0-100 km/h time was around 6.9 secs, which for a car of that era is brisk!
