Hey all,

Just after some advice on how i can fix a ticking from the emissions valve on a 380 DB III?

Ive heard its not a tough job to remove and install a new one or simply fix the ticking on an existing one, but wither way the ticking has to go, its driving me insane!!!

If there are any tips on where to find it under the bonnet, remove it and install another, that would be fantastic!!! ALL information on this is welcome :)

Would also love to know where to buy another one?

Thanks all,

Regards,

Mitch

It's at the rear of the engine and has a power plug going into it (that first link has a pic of it).. If i remember correctly, you can just unplug the power from it temporarily to see if the noise stops to work out whether thats the culprit or not. Then just go to mitsubishiiii and order it.

Very easy job to remove & replace, but as Josh says before outlaying the dosh on a new one simply unplug the electrical connection and if the noise stops you have found the culprit, if not look elsewhere.
Probably wasting your time buying a second hand one off a wrecker, as it's just as likely to 'tick' as the existing one.
As a last resort, simply unplug the electrical connection and leave it unplugged. The purge valve will no longer do anything, but it won't effect engine performance at all.

SO just to clarify here, i can unplug the power to the valve and it will not harm my engine or fuel economy?

Correct.
Rob (Foozrcool) ran his "Golden Nugget" 380 with it unplugged for months (years?) with no problem.

So i have unplugged the cable from the ECV, the tapping seems to have stopped, but the engine light is now on... any way i can turn it off??

Whoops, forgot to tell you that unplugging the connector would trigger a CEL (check engine light)!
Easiest way to turn to turn the CEL off and keep it off is to plug the offending plug back in.
But of course that will get the ticking going again.
I also forgot that both Fooz and I covered up our CEL (a bit of foam over it in the instrument cluster) due to constant oxygen sensor related CELs caused by the rear two oxygen sensors not playing nice with our RPW extractors, so we weren't bothered by "ECV not working" CELs.
Looks like your best solution is to get a new ECV from your local stealership and wear the financial pain of around $120.
Or else you can try one from a wrecker for around half the price, but as I said before no guarantee it isn't also stuffed and ticking.
That's the bad news, the good news is you seem to have confirmed that the ticking noise is coming from the ECV.

Give it some time, the CEL should clear.
If not, buy a cheap OBD2 scanner over eBay and use it to remove the error code, which will clear the CEL. That's what I did (I already had an OBD2 scanner though).
