ok all. i have my brand new engine in. its running perfectly! but cause it has a 12 month warranty on it, i wont b touching the engine for quite awhile. now lost with money to burn, i decided to go and have a look at some new audio gear. well, im getting a new amp and a set of splits next monday. ive already got them on layby. its a 4 channel eclipse amp and a set of clarion splits. now has anyone installed splits or any other speaker into their doors? im sure someone has, i think i can remember hearing about it.
is there any chance u could let me know where u positioned it and maybe a detailed how to? wat tools u used etc. etc. dosent matter wat sized speaker. i just need a how-to on how u put it into the door. like i said, tools, what u used to fasten the speaker to the door trim. did u use custom adapter plates stuff like this.
thanks in advance,
brendan

I assume you have power windows and a little thing to put things in down the bottom of the door?. The holder is easy enough to remove but taking the door panel off and not buggering any of the wiring is a different story. If you HAVE to do it all yourself i suggest that you message ( SHAGNA ) he has a second gen wagon but knows lots about home jobs on magnas.

I"ve got 6x9's int he front doors, but they were done before i bought the car off my bro. I pulled them off tho, it looks like they chopped some metal out because they are large (grinder :P) and then merely screwed it onto the little soft fake wood bit. (of course, chopping out the relevant trim)
The brisbane car sound job was preety bodgy, but its on a spacer and they were falling off, so i had to drill into some of the metal frame to secure teh screws and speaker. Its not really that big a deal i dont think, but i'm preety sure at last meet llama had splits or something in his fronts, so he could give u a better idea.
To pull the trim off from memory i think the bottom part just pulled out with little plastic clips, take off the little caps around handle and button, (i dnt have pwr windows), take off the plastic caps that are hiding screws, undo ne screws that you see, pull the winder out slightly, i think there is a retaining ring or something holding it there, pull that off, and lever the trim off.
Sorry for the dodgy explanation, but i can only remember taking off the back trims and the front speakers  and i also took off the trim to put in speakers on my parents car so i'm having confusing images in my head.
after pulling your engine out and head etc off this will be a piece of cake

Dont screw the speakers into the thin wood panel at the bottom of the door, this stuff is crap. What I did was get some 20mm MDF and some thin car carpet that matched the interior. I cut the MDF to the shape of that bottom section of the door trim and rounded the edges to the same as the corners on the rest of the door. Then I got some spray adhesive glue and coated the MDF and the carpet and attached the two. After everything was dry I cut a hole for the speaker with a jigsaw in the MDF and the door with a metal blade. After this all I had to do was glue and screw the MDF to the door and seal the bare metal I cut in the door with galv paint. I needed to get one 2.5" screw to go through the MDF and into the metal of the door for added strength. I mounted the tweeters inbetween the door handle and the boot locking switch with a holesaw (I have a wagon and no power windows so there was pleanty of room).
It looks tops and suits the trim, takes a lot of vibration out of the door too.
Dont use a grinder on the doors, it looks dodgy as hell, a jigsaw with a metal blade, or a nibbler does it best.
Im going to be doing the same thing to my rear doors pretty soon, I could do a step by step set of photos if you like. Hope this helps.

my site has fotos of what we did, we ****ed my car right up, cut the door away and then the trim and just shoved them in there and screwed the *****es into the metal, same with the 6by9's. my site = http://www.x.xstreamhost.com/irr/

Well I took the photos...but theyre all stuffed, I think the lens is buggered or something. I'll try again with my bros camera when I pull off the front doors for some more soundproofing.
