Hi all again. Been reading lots of posts but nothing to the effect of my problem. For several months now I have had a strange sound comming from the passenger side around the front wheel/wheel arch area and it I only happens on right turns, no sound on left turn or turning the wheel when stationary, left or right, only right at low speed. This sound does not start straight away but at about 3 to 4 k's of driving it start's and becomes more prominent the longer I drive and the more right turn's I make. The best way to discribe this noise is a sort of a dull clunking/pumping/drumming sound but not like a bearing whine. No loose splash guards, nothing stuck in pads, power steering fluid ok. I first thought it was CV's, so, I replaced them with a new set but the sound is still there. It can only be heard from inside the car, as, I had my son come for a drive and at about 4 k's the sound started after making about 10 to 12 right turns, we then both had a go at walking beside the car and sitting on the guard with the bonnet up but with the engine noise could not hear it, only inside the car. Could it have something to do with power steering? maybe a bad bearing? Any help will be appreciated.

MadMax......Please explain why you think it would be a bad tyre.

I'm sure MadMax will reply soon but in the meantime can you tell us how long you've had the car and whether the current tyres were on it when you bought it? The reason I ask is that I had a bad tyre experience recently as described in this thread: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103074
If you bought a car that was not used for some time, the tyres may have deteriorated due to age. In my case, the older tyres were on the back. Driving around town, it felt as if there was a wheel wobble and once up to speed there was a drumming sound and vibration. I couldn't see anything wrong with the tyres when on the car. When I got home after the first one blew and took the other rear wheel off, it was obvious that its tread was also starting to de-laminate and was bulging at various points around the circumference.

Hi, I've had the car 4yrs, bought it off a priest of all things, car was in excellent condition and has never sat for longer than a week, tyres are 3mths old and all good. I spent many years with Beaurepaires as an on road fitter so I have excellent knowledge of tyres, they have no de-lamination, wobble or bounce. I stated in my first post "at low speed" where I should have said as I turn right into my driveway or at a corner making a turn, that being "very low speed", less than 10k's and the noise is not apparent when at road speed cornering.

Will be giving the car to Pedders this week to diagnose, fingers crossed. Cheers

I'm suggesting a damaged tyre because that noise is one I've heard before coming from a water damaged tyre.
But it you don't want to put the spare in its place just to check, and visit Pedders, fine by me. lol

OK, I'll give that a go but I doubt it's the problem, as, the noise doesn't change it's "tempo" between different speeds. Cheers

Right, nothing to do with control arms, rubbers, ball joint or tyres. Had several cracked rollers in the main wheel hub bearing. Thanks for all help.
