Hello all!!

Now Ive had a good read through the forum and found this so far:

My PCV valve was EFFED and I replaced it. Hose just snapped off when I tried to check it, so new both. Cleaned rocker cover (front) and replaced gasket (didnt do plug seals, yet...)

Back rocker no sign of major leaking but still to be replaced...

ISSUE NOW:

Although the PCV valve change has drastically reduced the oil leakage, obviously the damage to seals was done and there is still at least one (possibly two) major leaks to fix, and by major, I mean when the car is warmed, I can see the oil dripping out. Id say a good drop every 10-15 seconds... From reading the forum, Im sure the leak(s) are too much for rocker covers...

FORWARD LEAK: Hits the ground just forward of the sump base. flows down from above sump and above the oil filter (in between the two). Some oil comes down on the oil fliter and I can see fresh oil collecting on top of the filter, flowing down from directly above it... Any ideas on this one?

Not sure there is a leak from the rear of the engine. however, oil does seem to drip down from further back. my thought is possibly the forward motion of the car forces the oil to flow towards the tail end (perhaps pooling further back)... from the above described FORWARD LEAK...

Anyways. any help in identifying this leak would be awesome. Did read about Crank Shaft seal?? I cleaned the area around the sump seal (lower?) seems fine and the sump plug is fine...

Thanks peoples!!

Cheers, Lorenzo!

Also, should probably add, in case it makes a difference. I know my oil filter needs to be replaced... and there's also a power steering fluid leak. Fluid is down to about half, maybe less, Ill top that up today...

I owned a TS V6 auto for a few years and this is what I had to do to get it to be oil tight at 220,000 km:

(1) Clean out PCV hoses, as well as cleaning out the rocker covers and clearing the spigots that connect to the PCV hoses. Clean air intake duct inlet for the PCV hoses. Clogged up with oily carbon.

(2) Replaced the "O" rings on the distributor housing. Major leakage, oil flows into the valley of the engine, fills it up and sloshes over in various places. The chamber that the distributor sits on has a pool of oil in it to lubricate the gears, is the "O" ring is not sealing, this pool will leak out with the engine off.
(Discovered during an overhaul of the heads - impossible to detect this with the engine intact, but shine a torch down into the engine valley between the intake runners and see if you have a lake of oil in there.)

Power steering leak - that will be at the steering rack, never fixed mine, just kept topping up the steering fluid.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: No plug seals on these, it is a totally different engine to the third gen engines (12 valve versus 24 valve), so don't get confused by reading third gen engine details!

best to degrease the engine again
these rocker cover gaskets are hard to seal up just right ..might have to try again
..did you use silicone and clean the rocker cover groves well with the new gasket
pop the intake manifold off and do the rear cover when ready ..easir to get to the dissy

try and locate the power steering leak

.
what else is good on the car ?

Is it advisable at this point to also replace the cam shaft seal/s?

Thanks for the replies and for letting me know that plug seals are not on the 2nd gen, lucky I cheaped out on those lol read somewhere that they were about $16 each and couldnt find them in a kit for the 12V engine...

Sadly, I think the TS is going off the road for now. Thinking of upgrading to a 2nd Gen Kia Mentor, via a gift from my Dad. Fix the TS up for my son who gets his P's next year...

Going to miss Maggie, what a car over the last 7 years!!
