after 2 years driving mini vans and a tiny little lancer. today purchased myself a te on gas no rego for 200 ... a bargain i would think

on top off the many issues ( more posts will come no doubht lol ) a 200 dollar car will have i have 2 that are directly annoying me...

1) the switch to select between gas and petrol has a up and a down... to start the car you need the switch to be in the middle...easy... now starts fine and when you select gas its all good but if you switch it the petrol it takes about 2 seconds and just dies.. flick switch to middle and starts fine but again will only work on gas.

2) the engine light is staying on and i dont have access to a workshop scanner tool.. do any of the cheap error scanners on ebay work with the magnas? or how do you reset this code so i can clear it and see if it stays away?

thanks fellas and ladies

A lot of old cars on gas burn out the fuel pump because the previous owner let the petrol tank run dry too often.
Step one would be to see if the petrol pump is running. (Assuming the petrol tank isn't bone dry.)
Alternatively, the solenoid that cuts the gas isn't working, so the car chokes on a overly rich diet of both petrol and gas.

Cheap eBay scanners are OBD1 or 2, don't work with the Magna.

ECU stores the error code, if you read it it will tell you what is wrong, so why clear it?
(But if you must, just disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.)

whats the best way to test that mate? are the pumps inside the tanks on these?

Pump in tank.
Switch on ignition.
Dive under rear of car. Feel for vibration and listen to pumping noise at the tank.

brilliant will try it out in the morning thanks mate

so im guessing hearing and feeling means the pump is buggered? do they take much to replace? even tho its running fine just on gas id like to get the fuel working aswell

and would the pump being buggered cause the engine check light to come on?

thanks man
