I read somewhere that it can be improved by holding it next to your head while clicking it, and it works!
At least, it does for me.

Just hold it up in the air for better effect. Doesn't need head, mouth, or anything else.

Holding your remote to your head does nothing but hit your noggin with RF waves it doesn't need. As Leo11 says, just hold the thing high up and you'll get a tad better range. The bloody things aren't as powerful as some other makes. I saw a VW driver unlock his car from 3 house blocks away.

I dunno, mine's pretty powerful. While I was fiddling with the old one on the kitchen table (busted battery holder... surprise surprise!) I inadvertently triggered the panic alarm in my car, which was parked in a closed garage 25-30 metres away with one brick wall and three internal walls in between. Took a while before I realised it was my car...!

May all be true. I'll try it up high away from my head. They certainly are a crap unit.

just did the test, and you're right: it works better up in the air. Why would that be? it's line-of-sight to the car either way.

Find a radio Ham - they can explain antenna theory to you until you want to slash your wrists, while radio waves are mostly reflected by metal; your head usually doesn't have much (unless you have a plate in your head - or ride a motorcycle and are full of screws and plates)
The water in your brain will reflect some radio waves but if they are out of sync with the clear air ones (ie non-head) they will make the signal worse - hence the Ham radio help.
Putting the remote higher in the air gives a clearer path for the radio waves and better range.
FYI my Commodore mate is always amazed that I can lock my car at least twice as far away as his VT, but I d have to hold the fob up in the air.
