View Full Version : What to look for when buying?
Hey, I'm thinking of getting a gen 2 magna in the near future. I have been looking at other cars as a first car, but nothing compares to the value and style of a magna.
So what should i be looking out for in gen 2 magnas? What goes wrong with them? where do they rust up? etc.
Ohh, and how much should i be paying?, i'm more after a auto V6.
Ohh, 1 last question. What type of power do the engines pump out?
Thanks :D

Depending on your budget I would get a TS V6SI manual V6. Doesn't really matter though. Auto's are okay for the V6 version but if you were to go for a 4 cylinder you would really be wanting a manual. You can get an auto V6 for about $3500 even though I have seen cheaper but most people may advertise for $5000 or so. The V6 engine is 120kw at the engine and the 4 cylinder fuel injected engine is 98kw at the engine. The good thing is not too much goes wrong with them at all and the paint is generally very good. I don't see very many at all with rust on them. Mine is crystal clean.
What year is the TS model?
It's really hard to find any info about magnas on the net, so you can be expecting alot of questions from me over the next few months, untill i can get the money together :D

As for rust, around the tail lights and the lower lip where the boot closes. I am beginning to now see a couple with rust in the front pillar as well although this is very unusual.
Look out for noisy lash adjusters, worn valve stem seals. Typical oil leaks are rocker covers, rocker cover bolt stem seals, oil filler cap, rear main seal, cam seals, crank seal, cam shaft end plugs. These are just a simple result of the cars starting to age a bit.
Only other things to watch are steering rack leaks and boots, lower control arm bushes and ball joints.
All in all for their age these cars are holding up well. If you are after the V6 and still want fairly basic, look for a good EI Verada, if you want bare basics look for the V6 exec, if you like the early 90's luxuary look for the XI verada as they are a hamburger with the lot.
