Hey guys ive got a 98 TF exec magna with V6 auto and my question is seeing as the car has done over 370000 km on the clock I am thinking of a new motor, could anyone let me know what motors will swap with the current automatic still being used as its only 8 odd years old.
Can I go with a V6 from a 380 or would I need to keep it to magna also what sort of price would I be looking at and can you get reco motors for these cars.

You can go for a 380 motor, a verada 3.5 or a ralliart motor, good luck finding one of those, could even swap in a pajero v6 depending on what year model the pajero ones out of

Mal (mad magna) or mitsfix (also mad magna) sells cheap 380 engines that are pretty much ready to drop in and I think his price (he'll tell me if I'm wrong) works out to be about 2500 including engine and Labour and any parts needed to drive in drive out

If you only have the 3.0 the 3.5 in any form will be a bit of a rev up, given the Km the 380 motor is just going to kill the trannie as it has a fair bit more torque.
Get a low Km 3.5L - spend some money on replacing the gaskets, belt, tensioner, water pump etc just to be sure all is good and you'll be happy.
I've seen the 3.5 engines as cheap as $400 but maybe shop around for one still in a car with genuine Km on the clock - not sure if you need the ECU too?

380 motor isn't just a direct drop in, lot of work needs to be done before it will work. Any 3rd gen Magna/Verada V6 will basically drop in and bolt up to your gearbox.
If you go a 3.5 i believe you will need to swap the exhaust Y piece as well due to higher deck height of the 3 litre. May be a few small other bits that need swapping as well, others may know.

I have the motor listed on fleabay at the moment, do remember however if it is being fitted by a back yard person with no business or qualification then is sold as is where is. I am not interested in doing a warranty because someone has made a mistake. If in doubt, motor is still in the car at the moment and can be seen running here

Nah mate that's fair enough full understand madmagna, also would it be better to buy a second hand motor and change it over or do the valve steams as the motor smokes a bit when it idols (well hoping it is just valve steams) and am wanting to do either soon before the cops pick it up and stuff me round. Looking at doing either way in the next month or so when I get a few dollars togeather, Madmagna are your engines a change over job as in I give you mine and it has no bolt on like the alt, starter etc or do they have all parts on cheers.

Motors never come with what are classed as rotating accessories, ie alt, starter etc. I do not need your old motor back as it would end up at scrap anyway. Things like injectors, manifolds are supplied however
