Hi All,

As the title says, does anyone here know a tuner in Perth with Link ECU & Mits 380 experience (besides RPW)?

I bought a supercharged 380 (running a Link Storm ECU) about 2 months back from interstate and I'm trying to get it registered in WA - I have approval for the mods from the WA Dept of Transport, who advised I needed to get an emissions test and engineers report before taking it over the pits for final inspection.

Unfortunately it failed initial emissions testing (only just) with the pair of 200 cell metal cats that are installed, so I've had a new flanged section made up with a single 400 cell ceramic Euro 4 cat (supposedly rated to handle the flow of up to a 6.2L engine). Unfortunately it seems this has restricted exhaust flow enough that the car now runs rough after it warms up, so I've swapped the old cats back in for now.

So I'm thinking my options are to either 1.) redo the cat section again with a pair of cats (either Euro 4 / 400 CPSI or Euro 3 / 300 CPSI) and hope two of them won't restrict flow enough to require a re-tune, then try emissions testing again, or 2.) find a tuner to see if we can get the car running happily with the single Euro 4 cat (which splits back to twin exhaust straight after).

Which brings me to asking if anyone knows of an experienced tuner in Perth with Link ECU and 380 experience, before I just start ringing around the WA Link dealers. Of course, I'm not liking my chances...

Complicating matters is a very recent change to my personal situation which means spending the last $1k or so for another emissions re-test, engineers report and pit inspection may not even be feasible, but I want to investigate re-tuning costs before I decide whether to cut my losses sell the car instead.

Any suggestions for tuners or other thoughts appreciated...

Cheers,
Adam.

I am of the opinion that an exhaust modification should not have impacted to that degree.

My first suspicion would be that RPW have buggered something up.

Does the car idle/drive perfectly when you re-instate the original exhaust components?

You can take screenshots of the engine state when cold and then hot and ask for assistance from Link on their website and forum.

If David at RPW tried to tune it for e85 there just may be a chance that he broke something.

I wonder if the oxygen sensor is destroyed for example?

Hi John,

Yeah, I'm scratching my head a bit as the car idles and drives normal again with the original pair of 200-cell cats swapped back in.

And RPW never actually got to the point of putting any E85 in it and tuning for that - he had a quick look at the existing setup on the dyno and decided that with the G4 Storm ECU not featuring the e-throttle (drive-by wire) module and also not supporting sequential injection for 6-cylinder engines, that he wasn't confident he could temporarily tune it on E85 to safely get me through emissions testing. He suggested I swap out the G4 Storm for a G4+ Extreme, which is beyond my budget at this point in time.

Your original tune was left on the car - no changes made, and when I left RPW, the car was still driving as per normal. I then had the new cat fitted by a local exhaust fitter I've used previously and always been happy with - car only ran rough after that (until swapping the original cats back in). I'm wondering whether it could have increased exhaust back pressure enough to have led to it running overly rich (just going on the logic that swapping to a more free flowing exhaust can make some cars run lean unless retuned)?

I'm really hoping someone else in Perth has some experience with a Link ECU on a 6G75...

Go to a different exhaust shop mate.
