After going over the TS to make sure it roadworthy I noticed I have no brake lights no interior lights aircon fan doesn't work, central locks don't work either, maybe a ETACS problem as I have been searching on here and the net and it sounds like it, also someone has added a kill switch into the mix, when I go to start the car I get all dash lights but the car won't start unless I hold down a small button located under the dash, every time i push the button I can hear a relay click, so this makes sense. what I don't get is when the motor is running the security light on the dash keeps flashing, so I thought I would have a look into this as it doesn't seem right, I started removing all the dash panels under the steering wheel and found someone had been in the before and spiced into the ignition wiring, as well as adding a couple of extra's (black boxes), I googled the part numbers on them OMRON MB685019 which I think is something to do with the central locking but the other one I couldn't find any info on but it has the relay in it that is operated by the kill switch, also when I removed the earth wire that was put into this combination I could then start the car without having to push the kill switch and the security light on the dash didn't flash when the engine was running, I'm not sure what exactly has been done to the electrics on this car and have taken some pic's for your viewing pleasure as we all love pic's

Gaaa! What a mess!
I just hate people who add an aftermarket alarm or immobiliser, because those things F'K up after a while. Chances are, the car has a new owner by that time.
I've removed something similar off a TS, by replacing the ignition switch. Wires were spliced into the wiring for the switch, but replacing it with one which hadn't had the wiring tampered with, this allowed the car to back to normal.

The best plan is to identify the thing (someone may recognise it) and get hold of the installation instructions so you can reverse it. Then throw the thing away.

My car was a TS V6 wagon. Be careful if your TS has the anti-theft device on the end of the ignition barrel. It is a white plastic cylinder shape right at the end with some very thin wires coming out of it.

Hey Max it's not a pretty site that's for sure, my thoughts were to back engineer the mess and get it back to stock, at least that way I no it will be correct with the manual. do you no where I can find the ETACS or is it built into the ECU ?

Omron and the MB part number indicate a Mitsubishi component. It is probably a dealer fit item. In fact, it is a Mitsubishi central locking relay.

Kill switch removal is easy, get the switch out, and join the two connectors to it. The switch breaks the circuit unless its pressed, so joining the wires will put it back to normal. The central locking wasn't standard on these cars, so a dealer has probably fitted it. Usually, these systems need constant power and acc and these are avail easily at the ignition barrel wiring. So that explains the connections.

And more often than not, the installation determines the reliability of electrical systems. Not the components. NOTHING relating to powered circuits should be half arsed.

Hey Mike, I think your right about a dealer install for the central locking as that part looks as if it's been done with some care, but who ever added the after market alarm and kill switch real didn't think about what they were doing because all I had to do to bypass it was remove the earth wire. I'll have a go at removing it later in the week, I have a 1992 TR for spares and have the loom if I need to rat it out.
