Hi all with a low mileage TL standard 155kw is it as simple to upgrade to ralliart heads ECU and exhaust, injectors etc to boost to the 180kw output or is the bottom end different on the ralliart motors as well?
ie: different shaped piston tops. Cheers Vee
First google result. I didn't even have to explain it all myself :P

Simply put, NO
The Ralliart had more compression also, if you want to spend that sort of money you would be better off using a 3.8

Quote for truths. Unless you're going to just do some minor mods to a 3.5 to get a few more kilowasps. If you're thinking of cracking open your existing 3.5, it's far easier to drop in a 3.8 nowadays.

Ralliart also had extractors and straight through muffler (same as VR/VRX as I understand). Muffler at least would be a recommended mod if you want more oomph.

Thanks peeps was hoping they just got that bit extra by making the squish areas smaller and changed piston top profiles and then different heads and cams, ECU etc. Will keep look out for a pickles low km writeoff to get the running gear then!! Vee

I have a 120k old Ralliart motor if that is of interest, also have a 65k old 380 motor as well as various others.

Maybe it is possible. Everywhere sofar i find 3.5's have bore and stroke all the same. Not sure how accurate wiki is but it does say this.
The engine was still a SOHC "6G74" 24-valve design but with a 180 kW output thanks to a more aggressive cam profile, modified head and combustion chamber (compression ratio from the Sports/VR-X's 9.0:1 to 9.4:1), remapped ECU and a modified Magna VR-X exhaust system - featuring stainless-steel extractors by HM Headers (the latter on their own contributing to a power boost of only 2-3 kW) and larger muffler in the centre pipe (to improve mid- and high-rev exhaust note). Ralliart was available with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed "tiptronic"
