The KH has copped a defect notice 😨 !
Gf was pulled over last night because the low beams werent working.
The strange thing is that I'd only replaced them a few weeks ago with the Phillips X-treme Vision +100's, so I suspected fuses or relay, but everything was fine. Pulled the bulbs and they're both stuffed! Filaments are broken.
Wtf? Thats weird, except that I did have a bad alternator in there for a few days which was swapped out just a few days ago. Dont know when the bulbs went though.
Why would both bulbs fail like this? How? If anyone who can throw some light on this (hehe) it would be much appreciated.
I've replaced em with a pair of Repco +30's and now have to get a road worthy done.

They don't make globes like they used to, tungsten is more expensive than it used to be. We have a 2007 Corolla which last year had both globes blow within 6 months of each other, 6+ years not bad for headlight globes we thought. We replaced them with Phillips globes and one blow within a year, replaced it with a Kmart globe and had been OK so far.
AFAIK my 2002 TJ still has all the original globes in it at 200,000 km. In the Royal Auto this month someone wrote in saying their 1997 Verada owned from new just had it's first brake light blow. I see plenty of cars not more than a few years old getting around with blown globes.
Voltage reg on the alternator most likely. They don't cost much and it's only a 20 minute swap.

Odd, I just used one out of another spare alternator. But found them on ebay for $20 odd.
Or was that the brushes... hmmm

I paid $60ish from an autoparts store.
Just make sure you disconnect the battery before doing anything.
I used to blow all sorts of good Narva and Phillips globes and now that I think about it I havent since I replaced the reg.

The repco +30's have worked out well. Fairly bright light compared to stock and seems to me they're good enough.

Sounds like over voltage and I'm sure you already know this but worth mentioning just in case: Make sure you don't touch the glass of the globes when you're installing them or they'll blow in no time. Something to do with the oil on your fingers getting hot.

Yes, natural body oils from fingers will create a hot spot on the glass leading to failure.
