Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has ever purchased an ECU without the BEM/keys to match, and been able to plug into their cars harness than access via an openport cable and remove the immobiliser setting?

Or is it more likely to not let you into the ECU at all to view/change since there is a code there?

Cheers
Dean

The ECU just needs power from the ignition switch so that it is alive to be contacted - I do this with a bench harness which definitely doesn't have a BEM (or even a key barrel)...

Cheers Andy, all resolved now, was an issue with a relay.

Now have the car fully running without the BEM and everything running good!

Hi, so my magna 1996 TE was running one day and wouldn't start the next. its acting as if the immobiliser isn't turning off. I had the key checked and they could read the chip so its not the key. I've tested the fuel pump and its not that either. Is there anyway of bypassing the immobiliser? or what would you suggest. Thank you :)

The E & F series immobiliser setup is different to the H and later series. While the later F series cars with reflashable ECUs can be configured to disable the immobiliser, the E and early F series cars can't (in practice anyway).

If you haven't already done so, check all connections between the key barrel and immobiliser/ECU. There have been problems of various types with this wiring over the years.

I seem to remember some comments about the immobiliser unit itself, or possibly the key reader antenna mounted around the key barrel being problematic in the early cars. Some searching of these forums might turn something up if no-one else is able to provide info (though you might have better luck using Google to do the searching than the forum search - include "site:aussiemagna.com" in the search phrase without the quotes...).
