These cars have been around a while, whats the experience with the dash, do they crack/warp/dry out/shrink with age?
My KH has always had a dash mat. I notice the mat has faded but the dash looks excellent, but what about the dashes that have been run naked?
Please post your cars dash status, either the dash is fine, or theres some noticeable sun damage.

Mine is fine, no mat. Though mine stays under cover and is cleaned regularly

Mine is fine, had no dash mat on it until a week ago (bought one from a wrecker for $7)

Mine is fine, but it has a dash mat and is parked undercover.

Mine is as good as new, parked undercover and has the silver sun shade up when parked in the sun. However my GTVi steering wheel has seen better days from sun damage

2003 TJ Magna which has never had a dash mat. Still good as new. No cracks, fades, nothing. Touch wood...

No cracking, ive hard four different dashes and the thing they all had in coming was the vinyl lifting from around the demister vents, when this happens you can see minor warping and then foam underneath.

my airbag flap is starting to lift in the top corners barely noticeable that's all though

TJ 2001 Sportswagon area in front of where the front window vents are is detaching from the foam, passenger air bag cover curling at edges a bit - no idea of its first 12 years of life but I think spent a lot of time in the sun.
Old TH with a non-black dash A1 - not a blemish and it parked in the Qld sun 5 days a week for 14 years.

I think the passenger air bag covers frequently have a very slight lift at some corners since they were new.
Those using silver sun shields; I think we'd still have a lot of UV hitting the dash, when driving or even parked in shade. But still a good idea to keep that hot drying sun off.
Sounds like the dashes are doing well, but we'll see how the poll goes.

Mine had warping along the demister vents, spent a lot time of in the sun of it's 12 years however. Don't think I've ever seen one with cracks.

Mine has usually had full undercover parking. Still looks very good but has a slight bulge on the dash appearing behind the steering wheel. You wouldn't notice it unless it was pointed out. Steering wheel rubber grip is coming loose from the 'frame' and rotate's slightly when squeezed, but again its no big deal.

This is my personal experience and opinion but I don't use armorall on the dash, I used to use it about 2-3 times a week on my dash for years and was very black and shiny, however I cleaned my dash with a vinyl/leather cleaner so it was bare and had no chemicals on it and the dash has faded and dried out underneath the armorall.. Armorall looks clean and shiny but does not actually protect as it says it does.. Another quick note my dad has had a 98 TF for 10 years no dash mat, protectant or anything and it still looks brand new

I wonder if that could be easily fixed with heat/glue?

I don't use amourall either. I cleaned a 5 year old dash that used it from when the vehicle was new, once I got rid of the armour all it was shocking, white marked, lost all it's shine. Was shocking. Protectant my ass.

Armorall use silicone, for a dash your best of using something that is Silicone free like Aerospace 303, Silicone will affect your plastics long term.

I just use a wet rag now. Seem to keep it in better condition

I know that now, I was 18 at the time and that's what all my friends used and I thought it looked good.. Now I use a product called AMMO mousse interior conditioner and it's amazing.. Has a perfect matte finish which looks much nicer then then glossy finish I used to like

Alcohol free baby wipes work well at cleaning interior plastics without leaving residue or causing any damage. Used them for many years on my car. When they dry out they make good polishing clothes for chrome trims and bits like the aerial or exhaust tip.

This has also happened to my wifes TE which has never been parked under cover. Any tips on how to glue this back down? Previous poster mentioned heat glue, which was my 1st thought also with some wooden wedges to put pressure down from the windscreen.

The other thing apart from glue is to cover it with a dash mat. I find them useful not only to reduce direct sunlight on the dash, but also stops those annoying shiny dash reflections in your line of site.

I think the poll is telling us that these dashes have done well unless regularly parked in direct sunlight.

I just bought a one owner TL AWD and it has spent all its life garaged, steering wheel and dash still look like new. There is no way I would put any type of silicone product on my dash.

Never had a cracked dash top to feel the need for a dash mat. I wonder if leaving a damp towel on it once in a blue moon will stop it from cracking (if it ever would)?
