My son now has my first Awd TL as a 2nd car to drive to work.
its got around 280k klm on it and up to now has been great car with minimal probs since I bought it new in 2005. Recently its started playing up on him. It has an intermittant fault where sometimes it wont start or if it does start it cuts out again within seconds. Other times it starts and runs normally.
He put a new battery in it but that hasnt fixed the problem.
He's done some research and found the following on carsguide.

http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-advice/q-and-a/2004-mitsubishi-magna-intermittent-starting-27529

Basically, according to this article, there is a RFDI Antenna in the ignition switch which develops a fault, so that the immobiliser starts playing up.
His car is displaying all the symptoms listed in the report.

he called the local Mitsubishi dealer, spoke to someone in the service dept and was told that they had never geard of the problem.
Has anyone here come across this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If it is the issue, just drop down to your local self serve wreckers and grab a new one to check. Won't cost much and can be a cheap fix

I've had a look at the service manual (genuine mitsi) and I can't even find this thing. There is a mention of a "Key ring antenna" which appears to be under the steering column cover.

Thanks for that. A comprehensive write up. I'll pass this onto my son and will see how he goes with it.
