Greetings to all.
Am reading thru the service schedule for my 01 TJ S1 exec and it talks about changing the front axle oil (2WD) every 90k.
Can someone point me to where this is, as I cant see it! (Drain and fill points.)
What weight (and fluid type) is recommended, as its not stated in the service book.
Also, it states lube the suspension arm, steering linkage and prop shaft u joints...where are these? Cant find nipples...are they just lube with greasy finger, or?
Thanks to all.:mits:

It is the gearbox oil that you can change, the FWD doesn't have a front axle with it's own oil supply as such, the gearbox and differential are in the same unit.
If you are reading a generic service booklet, you will find a lot of service items that are not relevant to your 2001 FWD Magna, it covers FWD, AWD, rear wheel drive, Diesel, pretty much the whole range of Mitsu cars. You need a bit of car knowledge to work out what is relevant to your car.
Nothing to lubricate on the front suspension, no prop shaft, no "U" joints, on the front wheel drive.

Is your TJ an auto or manual? Different procedures for both.

Auto 4sp non trippy.
MADMAX.."If you are reading a generic service booklet, "
Yes it appears the mitsi service booklet covers everything from a donkey to the QE2. What throws me is that it talks of these things being FWD specific tasks. It also calls out the tranny fluid as a separate task, and gives repair time quote for these additional tasks....It went against my instinct but I HAD to look....I went looking for something akin to a transfer box thinking that it must have a separate axle drive unit. Didn't find it ! Prop shafts I read as CV joints and u bolts I read as the drive shaft alignment bearing carrier.....couldn't find nipples...thought it must be a remove cv boot, insert grease jobby...

The service procedure for the auto box has been covered many times on this forum. Remember to use either genuine or a good quality type M fluid.
CV shafts are not a home mechanic serviceable item. If your CV joint only has a split boot and you catch it before a heap of dirt, moisture and other rubbish gets into the joint you can have the joint cleaned, regreased and a new rubber boot fitted. Joint still needs to be removed from the car.
If the joint is noisy or clicks on turns it will need replacement. About $70 to $90 per side on eBay. This is a job you can do
at home with basic tools and a bit of knowledge.
There are no grease nipples anywhere on the Magna.
