Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone knew the main differences between the gearboxes?

I basically run one in a speedway race car, and currently run a standard 3.5l manual gearbox with a locked (welded up) diff. I have also purchased a manual Ralliart gearbox and was just wondering if they are the same gear ratio's etc and the only thing different being the LSD diff?

If it is just the diff, can the LSD be easily removed and exchanged with a standard diff from a 3.5l manual (so I can weld it up).

Cheers

The gearbox themselves are the same. The only difference being the diff is LSD as opposed to open.

I would advise against opening it up to swap out, you might as well get a standard 3.5 box and weld that instead of ruining a ralliart box. The ralliart boxes with the LSD's are much sought after, including by me lol

Fun fact: The 3.0 gearbox on the other hand had a taller 1st gear ratio, so with high grip tyres and LSD/welding could get off the line quicker than the 3.5 boxes.

don't you mean 1st was shorter?

Taller ratio = shorter

Taller gearing = Low ratio = higher gear eg 4.0:1
Shorter gearing = High ratio = lower gear eg 4.5:1

Rather confusing terminology.
