Just a quickie:

Looking for a supplier of bulk (X 6 of each) Ryco oil filters, Z456 for the Magnas and Z411 for the Lancers.
Found them last time for about $10 each including shipping, a few years back, but I can't locate the same supplier. (Bit hard to search if you don't remember the name. lol)

Anyone know of a supplier?

Mmmm . . . Supercheap, $11.88 . . . must go see the local shop and see if they match their on-line price.

Might take me a day or two, bit busy. lol

Just did the first oil change on the second hand 2012 Lancer wifey bought a year ago, and doesn't drive much. Came with fresh oil & filter.
Destroyed a strap wrench trying to take the oil filter off, ended up putting a chisel through it and pulling on that.
Off came an AC-Delco filter, AC028. Unfortunately, this is equivalent to a Ryco Z456, NOT the Z411 that should be on there.
Had the opposite problem with the TL when I did it's first oil change. Had a Z411 on it instead of a Z456.

Mechanics! Can they read and look stuff up? Seems that is too much to expect. Or maybe they have short arms and the right filter is on a very high shelf? Mmmm, not impressed!

Anyway, it is the Z456 I'm low on, not the Z411, which is the one I looked up at $11.88 - will visit SupaCheep soonish. Need a new strap wrench anyway.

EDIT: Supercheap has Z456 for $17.45 on their web site. I will keep looking elsewhere, thanks!

Why? Do you have something I may want? lol

Yes, saw catalogues.repco.com.au/home.html but it didn't appeal for some reason. Wrong brand of oil, wrong brand of filter, that sort of thing.

See because the Magna filters have progressive numbers on it as in Z456, I always remember it so I just ask for that filter, I dont tell them what car I need it for!

Or in the case of places where they are on the shop floor I just grab it myself......

Yep, know what you want, get what you want. Don't let the shop person make any decisions for you!

(The wrong filters on the wrong cars in my previous post (rant?) was done by previous mechanics or car owners, not by me. I could name names of the suspects, but I won't. )

Anyhow, 3 cars had their oil changes over the last week. That's 3 buckets of Nulon 10W-40, and 3 filters. About $100 worth. See them right for the next year, seeing they only do about 5,000 km each per year.

Bob_the_DIY_guy is happy!

Have I mentioned previously DIY saves money? lol

If you're not in a hurry then get them from the US.
You can get something like AC Delco for quite cheap if you buy 6.
Less than $10 AUD per filter delivered.

Sure, I can get AC-Delco, Sakura, Cooper filters for like $4 each, but I'm a Ryco fanboi after using them for 30 odd years without problems and not about to change now!

Hastings = $1.80
Pronto = $1.94
Bosch = $2.61
Mann = $3.22
AC-Delco = $3.58 (A dozen of these would be $101 delivered to my door)
.
skip a few
.
Mobil 1 = $14.22

Anyone use the Sakura or Cooper brand of oil filter on the Magna?

I am pretty sure AC Delco is not a bottom of the range filter?
You can also get Bosch too...

Cooper at $7 each may be the go.

$54 for 6 delivered, is ok, but quality is an unknown.

Cooper / Wesfil filters are fine, all part of the GUD family.

Sakura by FSA are also fine . Sakura are quite a large OE manufacturer for many vehicle makers around the world and also heavy industry applications. You would be surprised just who Sakura are also rebranding there filters for in the way of other filtration players in the after market.

Think you will find even the Burson range of filters are house branded for them by Wesfil / Cooper.

Max, please dont go blaming mechanics when you know not of what you speak

Many, AC Delco included, cross reference the Z456 and Z411 together. Many of these state on the box "interchangeable with Z411"

I can do in bulk Ryco for $9.50 each but that is a pick up price and would require at least 12 to be purchased.

I have been using the Sakura for years, they are a decent filter, never had one fail ever. These are multifit thus the Z456 and the Z411 are effectively the same filter

Personally I just prefer not to be a tight ass, spend a few $$ extra and use a genuine filter, the cost difference is not all that great however Mits are now making this hard with recent price increase as well

Sakura is One of the bigger OEM for alot of manufactures now and you cannot go wrong.
Pretty good range and supply more than just cars makers. Vee

So basically, I can get a dozen of the AC Delco filters and use them on both a Magna and a Lancer?

That would be so Kool!

Yes, I'm a tightass, but you all knew that already! lol

Does it matter what the number is as long as it fits, doesn't leak and filters the oil??

Yes and no

Oil filters have bypass valves set at different pressures, you get the wrong filter and the bypass may open too soon.

Example is the 411 will open at a lower pressure to the 456 IF has been made to open at the manufacturer pressure, the difference is small none the less is there.

I just paid $9.50 for a Value Parts Mitsubishi branded filter from the local Mitsu Dealer. Not really sure who makes these, but doesn't matter to me. If it's good enough for Mitsubishi to put their name on it, it's good enough to go on the magna. Although there are cheaper filters (wesfil etc) under 10 bucks much better than the usual ryco I get from supercheap.

I've been using Cooper oil and fuel filters on my 2 Magnas and 2 Lancers for years. I get them at a good price from my local independent parts shop and have never had an issue.
