And here we go again....lol

Genuine mitsu oil only for transmission....nothing else

Engine oil.....whatever you want.....everyone has thier own flavour

My engine oil of choice is penrite hpr15w60......this is equivalent to 15w50, just penrite call it +10 due to an additive or something they use

Nearly everyone will recommend Mitsubishi ATF only, me included. It appears to look after the transmission very well.

I can understand that....I know its a pain but, the search feature can help alot with very common topics, even googling you will find your way

The main man here... Mal, or madmagna, is highly experienced with these vehicles, very highly recommends penrite oils

Penrite describe their 15W-60 oil as being an alternative to 10W-50; it might be misleading to describe it as "equivalent" when in fact it is more viscose (thicker).

At 100 degrees C (operating temp) an xW-50 oil has a viscosity in the range 16.3 to 21.9 cSt, while an xW-60 oil is 21.9 to 26.1 cSt.
In the case of the Penrite oils, the 10W-50 is 18.6 & the 15W-60 is 23.9cSt.

Mitsubishi recommends (rather vaguely) xW-30 or xW-40 or xW-50. To me the xW-40 is the "happy medium" & xW-50 is itself the "plus 10" grade, which I'd only consider using in severe, high temp conditions.

It could be argued that as the factory fill was 10W-30, xW-40 would be "plus 10" & xW-50 is "plus 20".

I'd suggest that no one oil (or grade) is best for everyone.
It takes about 20 minutes for engine oil to reach operating temp. So for anyone who generally does trips of short duration (and all the more so in cold areas in winter) its preferable (I'm not saying essential) to have a low viscosity oil like 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40 - at the highest 10W-40.

To illustrate: at 40 degrees Penrite's HPR5 (5W-40) is 92cSt, which is well over the top of the range for a xW-50 oil when measured at operating temp (21.9cSt, as stated above). However its better than HPR10 (10W-50) which is 127. Their 15W-50 (Pro 15 Plus) is 149 & the Everyday 20W-50 is 180.

The ts370000 ia over 390000 now and a couple of oil changes ago I shifted to penrite40 25w-70 with a heavy duty oil stabiliser to aid lubricant to stick to the upper engine with the idea 9f taking it above 400k and have started a rebuild. I'd like to aim for 600k now. I've heard it's been done. The auto transission is the original one and has not been flushed or adjusted in any way for the last 210k'ks just irregularly changed with an sp3 compatible. Currently penrite atf, (stock cooler) (never done the filter so I'll have to remember to do that too, as well as the belts, this weekend, plus a flush, I suppose, if I can figure out which pipe goes from the transmission to the cooler). As this one will hopefully keep me going while doing the same model ts but with 133k on the clock. Very nice. Reminds me of why I like this particular advance so much, except someone has 'sported' it which doesn't suit me do I'll be unsporting it. For it I'll go with the oils and fluids recommended here.
