I am looking at colour coding the front grille on my TJ to Mawson White. How would I go about getting the correct paint in a can?
What is involved in respraying it, could I do it myself or should I take it to a professional?

Yes, a black grille on a white car looks a bit much.
Then again a white grille on a white car looks a bit like that too.
How about a sedate silver? But anyway, it can be done at home with a spraycan. Remove the grille, give it a good clean, a couple of light coats with drying time in between.
Did one - also black on a white car - this way, still looks good 10 years later. I used Toyota champagne silver though. Duplicolor (?) range is extensive.

I was considering either colour coding it or grabbing a verada chrome grille. The Verada grille looks really nice but i dont have 150 bucks spare atm. I reckon a verada grille would look better than colour coding it but which is cheaper?

well Mawson white is available in most local super cheap auto stores (least in mine anyway) in colour-matched spray cans... so start with that. :) you can have a go yourself if you want a challenge.
had a go at making a custom grille not long ago, with good results from simple tools: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104118

Custom grille looks great! I'm 99% sure my car is the same colour as yours :-D what colour white do you get because there are many different shades of white on their website. (Don't want to get the wrong shade...) hopefully I can also use the colour match paint to touch up the chips on my bumpers too! Will grab some tomorrow from super cheap auto. I find working on my car gives me a sense of great satisfaction so the more i can do myself, the better :-D cheers guys for the comments :-)

My advice is don't touch up the chips unless your very very patient.. If you rush it or aren't very confident on the process you will end up with polka dot bumper even if the paint is matched perfect.. As for the grill go for gold with painting yourself, even a crappy job still look decent because there isn't much of a flat surface to reflect

Cool I'll head to my local super cheap auto to find some mawson white spray cans and give the grille a go on the weekend. Thanks Kevin.

this is a grille I have. Don't know which model it's off. Currently on the old ts. Having a close look at it I see that it was all white once and someone painted the black. It has also got a clear coat on. The white under the black is exposed (I guess from stuff hitting the grille) the clearcoat is also peeling like sunburnt skin. I suspect prepping is an issue as well as what type of paint used.

Timtam, what you'll want to do is pop your bonnet, look at the top of your firewall in the center for the metal plate that says all the details about your car :) it'll have the trim level, vin and paint code... whites for TJs are (so far as i'm aware) WP - Paris White, and WG - Mawson White (people correct me). All you should need to do is take your Make and Model, and that W code to SCA and they should be able to mix it up for you. Good luck!

ts370000, looks like a KS verada grille. my dad has a KS and those grille centers are typically a dark grey, so someone's had a go at painting them black. and they do wear and chip a lot in that area :)

Sweet, so do you have to go to super cheap auto with the paint code or just the name of the paint?
