Gears are occasionaly crunching whenever either changing down or when selecting first from neutral. The car has done 220k, is this a common problem among TR 5spd magna's? Is there an easy fix or will i have to remove and dismantle the gearbox for synchro replacement?
Cheers
gear crunching especially into 1st, or from 1st to 2nd is common in ALOT of old/worn gearboxes. and yes the gearbox will have to come out to fix the syncrhos, if its not that bad i wouldnt worry about it....might be better off to try and get a reconditioned gearbox.

Before going to the extreme of an overhaul try an oil change with different grade of oil. This is quite often a good start.
Well, my car has gone into the garage for this exact problem (95 TS 5spd). What's it worth to get the synchros done, or for that matter what's a new gearbox worth? Mainly severly grinds when cold in the morning, however will grind after warm up run around town.
Putting newer, thiinner oil speciallly for FWD cars with shift probs didn't work.

my car that exact problem 2. im putting mine in the workshop in next few weeks. it's gonna be between 600-900 incase any other problem. i also gotta get my clutch done at the same time. i've been dealing wit this problem 4 a while but it really needs 2 be fixed. and my double clutching isnt fast enough. but definiately put it in b4 2 long bcuz it can make the problem worse or so i've been told

mine sometimes crunches into reverse only and sometimes just wont lock in i've always wondered what it might be but because it doesn't do it all the time i dont usually think about it
