Hey guys,

At the present time of my build I am wondering if there is an aftermarket diff gear for a tl 3.5L magna? With my 31" tyres I will lose acceleration, which I really want to keep! So I am hoping there is a 4.11 or something really tall?

You can modify a 380 4.11 final drive to fit the Magna box. Requires some machining though and I think even the EVO 4.3 midght be able to fit.

Nice buggy, should be FUN!

You could possibly buy a 3.8 box? Would bolt straight up

Sweet ride mate. That thing will haul ass. You happy with the output of the 3.5? Is it stock?

Is that thing an auto?

If it is, which I hope it isn't, the old 3.0 auto had a lower diff ratio. Much lower than the 3.5 four speed auto used in the TL. Something like 3.7something vs 3.2something.

That's if it's the four speed auto.

It its a manual then I would be looking to loot that 4.11 diff' from the 380 box. I hear they're pretty rare? Or, looking at having your own gears cut, to a custom ratio (5.0:1).

Can't just drop the rear tyre size? Might be your cheaper/easiest option.

Sorry Westausbuggy, looked closer at your picture and that does look like an auto box as Skapper suggested. I have no experience with them so maybe a complete 380 auto box might be easier, think you will need the drive shafts too.

Cheers Dave.

I'm thinking you might be better off, marginally, with the 3.0 liter 4spd Auto. Compared to the 3.5 liter auto;

3.0 4spd Auto Overall Ratios;
1st - 10.64:1 / 74 kmph
2nd - 5.60:1 / 141 kmph
3rd - 3.74:1 / 212 kmph
4th - 2.74:1 / 289 kmph

3.5 4spd Overall Ratios;
1st - 9.94:1 / 80kmph
2nd - 5.23:1 / 151 kmph
3rd - 3.50:1 / 227 kmph
4th - 2.56:1 / 310kmph

This is all pretty big gearing still, for a dune buggy. I'm not sure what tyre circumference those big dirt digging tyres are, but if it's 2.2m (figure I used to calculate the maximum speeds) then your geared speed is crazy.

IF you can put the final drive ratio from the 3.0 auto into the 3.5 auto you would have a lower set of overall ratios. IF it could be done that is.

3.5 4spd Auto with 3.0 final drive gears, Overall Ratios;
1st - 11.34:1 / 70 kmph
2nd - 5.96:1 / 132 kmph
3rd - 3.99:1 / 198 kmph
4th - 2.91:1 / 271 kmph

If you were to make a custom gear set for you final drive I'd start at 5.5:1, which will give the buggy a max speed of 184 kmph.... a bit more realistic for a buggy, right?

The 380 5spd Auto has a taller overall gearing set again, 3.325:1 final ratio. I'm not sure the 4.11:1 gears from the 380 manual will go into the auto box, but even if it did the geared speed is still bonkers.
