So i have purchased Verada KJ tail lights and also the boot garnish with the reversing lights. My boot does not have the cut out for the garnish with the reverse lights so i was wondering what is easier / alternatives for reverse lights.

Either:
- cut out holes to fit the boot garnish on existing boot lid
- fit a reverse light in the clear rectangle on the tail lights somehow?
- or if i really have to, try and find a verada boot lid in mawson white, might take a while to find one tho

any other ideas? :D

I used 2x 18 SMD LED adhesive-backed panels in each taillight, one on each side of the indicator bulb . Not really noticeable when not on, which is what I wanted, and quite bright in low light - excellent for backing up at night.

oh sweet, that looks perfect! How did you open up the cover? Does it come off by pressing in those clips on the inside of the light or something?

The taillight lense is glued to the back half of the assembly, so you will have to heat up the glue and take it apart slowly. Luckily, there is no need to do that to do this mod. There is a triangular-shaped slit or hole at the top of the indicator section, right above where the globe holder attaches to the light. Just slide the panel in there and stick it to the back with the supplied double-sided tape. It is very fiddly work, but is possible.

I want to mention though that SMD 5050 LED panels like that are not the best for emitting light for reversing: they are good for flooding light (bright up close) and are more than visible for other people to see you are reversing, but have terrible throw (the light doesn't go very far) — I initially used these panels in my own lights myself. The light was not good enough for me for reversing at night — I knew they wouldn't be; they were a very temporary affair — so I moved to something like these (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191451910678) as another temporary "upgrade". They worked much better than the SMD panels, and I was happy with them for the price. Then I had my windows tinted; almost back to square one, but I am "used to it" for now.

Another option is to use the Cree LED bulbs like these (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400818923650) (there are other/better/more expensive options, this just an example) with the parker globe holder from a second-gen Magna/Verada (I'm unsure on the specifics of the holder, but I have seen it done). The globe holder is made of flexible rubber, and is perfect for wedging into that slot above the indicator globe. This gives much better light output in comparison to any LED panel.

Here are some pics of a build by Maggie3.5 using the Cree LED bulb method, which is who I got the idea from.

I didn't notice any triangular slits when i was checking them out before i put them in, but i'll pull them out and have another look(Y)

Just ordered a pack of different smd's a few weeks ago so i'll give them ago first and see how good they are, cheers for the info!

There is a step by step guide to installing reverse lights into KJ tail llight clusters on the forum. Do a search, you'll find it. I did it to my TJ, took about an hour, without having tried it before.

If you have a standard TJ bootlid is the same-year Verada chrome number plate/boot garnish directly transplantable?

no ,because the KJ Verada has reverse lights in the chrome garnish and you will have to cut holes in your TJ boot.Just try and get a KJ boot.

Sorry for the late reply, I've not been on the forums much lately.
I didn't separate the light, I affixed them through the bulb hold for the indicator lamp (and the triangular section that Hyphen described). Rather fiddly to do being an adhesive backed item, but they have not moved in the year that they have been in there.

I've had no issues with light throw. Of a night-time the reverse lights light-up well into the yard across the road from my driveway which is 15 metres give or take.
