Well it's all a matter of perception, really. Some people wouldn't be caught dead in one. Others think they are the biggest piece of crap ever! As for me, after owning two over a period of fourteen years, I've only got praise for them.

The one I'm driving currently; it was bought back in July '07; I paid $400 for it and have done 225,000 ks in it and it has never broken down or let me down in any way (total ks is 450,000). It's been maintained carefully and have to say that is one of the reasons it has kept going. Plus I use the Proma stuff in the oil and fuel; plus a Hiclone and the PulseStar plugs and a K&N air filter, and all that stuff has kept the economy right up there. And while I'm on the topic of economy the old girl gets 37.4 mpg (that's 13.25ks per litre in NewSpeak). And that's with all my stuff in the car. I'm a house-sitter and do some serious mileage. It probably gets less in city traffic but over-all it's pretty outstanding economy on a 25 year old vehicle.

So yeah, if I had 6K I'd buy one if it was that good. But only if it was a wagon. And remember these baby's don't have much in the way of computing crap in them; and that makes them very fix-able! by people with basic skills.

I think Alzheimer's must be setting in there Max!
I remember when I bought by brand new TM SE manual in April 1985 it was $15,300.
So a TP Elite, being three years later and one model up must have been quite a bit more, my guess pushing $20,000.

This is what I love about this forum!
Just when I'm being a big know-it-all, some bigger know-it-all comes along!
I appreciate the correction though. lol

All I can say, is that in my dark distant past at sometime a new car was $6K. Obviously not the Magna. Datsun 180B, possibly. 1975, possibly.
But with Alzheimers setting in, I may be wrong.

My father had a TN, bought new, but when he gave up driving it just sat there. He eventually sold it to the bloke who does his gardening for $1. So $6K for a TP sounds a bit steep to me, no matter what the condition.

Thanks Magna buff.
There is a red GT wagon on the Carcycle website but I would prefer a sedan, might have to patch up and renew the rego on the Executive till one comes along lol.

Cheers Chris

There's a TP Elite sedan on Gumtree at Hillbank (Vic) for $1,000. Has 238,000 kms on it but looks very nice from the pics.

Also, if magna buff is still looking for a wagon, there's a TP Exec wagon on Gumtree at Tin Can Bay for $650 neg. It is unreg but low kms and looks great. If it was in NSW, I wouldn't be telling you! :)

Take a look at it then. Search on Gumtree for 1991 magna wagon. From the pics and description, you could drive it home on a permit. The $650 price is negotiable. Better still, I'll PM you a link to the advert.

I'm no expert... It IF it's as good as they say and doesn't have any timing rattle or trans issues maybe $1200?? I'm only guessing. That blue one for $650 certainly looks good in the pics. If it had aircon it would prob be better to get it and do the chains etc ,that way you know what you've got ...maybe! I would have thought when you offered 450 they may have said 500 it's yours ...oh well.

Neither would i. You're in the best state to get one. There are very few in NSW.

They answered "No" when completing the air conditioning field of the advert but in the text of the ad, they say "The car has powersteering and airconditioning". The latter would be correct because auto trans, air cond, power steer and power mirrors were standard equipment for the executive. All were additional cost extras for the GLX. Whether the air cond works or not is another matter but fixing it would be a whole lot easier than fitting from scratch.

I've examined that advert a few times and dismissed it as too expensive for my own purposes. Their definition of "immaculate" is not the same as mine. The seats are grubby for instance. They're not ripped, so a set of seat covers would solve that. Otherwise it looks pretty good but you really need to see it in person to judge properly.

I think Tpwagon is on the money with an offer price of $1,200. Even at that, it wouldn't be economically viable for me and I think even less so for yourself. The rego. only has a couple of months to run which means having to pass a roadworthy to re-register. Taking it interstate, you'd have to do that anyway. Then there's the cost of going down to collect it and of driving it back plus the risk of having problems during the trip. in fact it would be cheaper and less risky to have it sent on a transporter.

Hello
A Clean Wagon with factory mags would be kind of cool.
Could someone tell me if a GT sedan should have September 1990 and option A24 on the compliance plate.
Thanks Chris
