View Full Version : Removing steering wheel

Got my new VR-X wheel fitted and I'm well impressed with it. Got it for $375 of Mitsubishi but I think they stuffed up because the wheel and a new front engine mount fitted all up came to $640! Anyway.

The dips***s didn't line it up properly so I was going to do it myself at the weekend. I need some clues as to how to do this without killing myself.

Is it as simple as disconnecting the battery or a fuse for the airbag and then undoing the spline key bolts at the side of the wheel to get the airbag bit off? Or is there more to it?

Also does anyone know what size those spline bolts are and what size the main steering colum bolt is as I will need to buy them and would like to do it before I take the wheel off.

Any help would be appreciated and I hold nobody responsible for my stupidity.

I would just go back to them and get them to do it...
you could set of the bagand then you are up for alot more money :(
Also the bolts that hold the bag in are a special hex head.. (I think from memory) it has a nipple in the middle of the hex.

They would be known as Torx Tamperproof ;)

And yes, take it back to Mitsu...dont do it yourself if it's an airbag one

someone posted on these forums a while back with instructions on how to disable the airbag so you could safely remove an airbag wheel, but i'd take it back to mitsubishi and just have them align it correctly as they obviously never did it properly in the first place...

Can't remember how much it cost (i did post the price on here somewhere) to have mine fitted to my old ride but i had a wheel alignment done at the same time because it needed it.
