Is the only way I can get the centre air vents out by removing the whole centre console assembly after removing all surrounding parts?

It is part 13 on page 52A-5 of the workshop manual.

If that is the case is it a big job as it looks like a lot of parts have to come off to get access to the vents.

The chrome has chipped off and is, or at least was, as sharp as a razor. I have wet sanded it back so no more cut fingers but would like to get the chrome strip air vent controls back.

Any help would be most welcome.
