Hi all,
Does anyone know of or has done the conversion for the DVD players in the back of the front seat headrests? Has anyone bought anything of the shelf e.g JB HIFI, need to do this to keep the kids and missus happy.

Im not sure what the go is with them, but personally I think it will be cheaper and a lot less effort to just buy an iPad, even an older generation used one.
I know you can buy a mount for the head rests for iPads. Personally, thats what I'll do but what even floats your boat really.

My roommate is currently the repairer for these units in Australia. He says they are the worst ones to get. He repairs about 8 sets a week

The other choice you might have is to buy one of those roof mounted screens with the DVD player built in.
Price will depend on which one you go for.

The best ones are the ones that you give the company your headrest and they fit it out and re-trim the headrest for you

Hi Alex,
I used to have 7" in my TJ since 2007, no problems (Retired them in 2012). Now have better ones (9" touch screen) in my Pajero ( installed over 2 years ago ). Work Flawlessly.
DVD is hardly ever used as units have 32 GB SD card and 32 USB Slots.
Said that any electric component can develop faults.
You can PM me for more details.
cheers,
Kewls.

1st post! And its something I have experience with.
Ok back on point. I've done headrest installs on quite a few cars, and the most recent one was on the missus VT wagon. They were used to keep the kids in check while on long drives which they did really well.
I used a couple of cheap $40 ebay 7" screens and installed them in conjunction with a DVD headunit.
Takes around 10-20mins per screen and they generally come with 2 AV inputs, so one for a dvd unit, and a game console or something.
Plenty of install vids on youtube, and the hardest part you'll come across is putting a razor blade into a perfectly fine headrest (I still get squeamish every time I do it).
