Hey everyone I just changed my spark plugs in my car and while i was there i notice a largish round cylinder shape container attached to the firewall i can only assume it has something to do with the vacuum lines it also has a thicker tube thicker then a vacuum line coming off it and just going nowhere.I can only guess since im just starting to learn about my car iv got a few pictures of it and bits around it highlighted to try and help . I tried looking around online and on these forums buts its a bit hard to look up something when you have no idea what it is.

Sorry if the pictures are huge its all i can do.

The red circle is the object in question
The purple one is the tcl i think?
The yellow line is a vacuum line connecting the two

The orange hose is the random hose not connected to anything
The white arrows are a right angle T piece that has an end not going anywhere which i circled light blue

The round cylinder shape you're referring to is part of the evaporative emission control system & is commonly known as a charcoal canister.

Cheers

It goes to nowhere! lol
It is there to dump any petrol from the canister onto the roadway, don't want that in your hot engine compartment, do we? lol
(Think of it as being like the overflow pipe from your coolant reservoir that hangs down and points at the roadway.)

Normally, that hose hanging down is dry, if it leaks petrol there is something wrong!

Mystery solved, yes??

My guess is you have a digital camera and you re taking pictures with the full number of pixels.
If so, you can adjust this in your camera menu settings. In my Nikon, this is done in the 'shooting menu'.
Alternatively, you can edit the picture in a photo editor. I use a 'Lexmark' editor which came with my Lexmark printer. You can also use the editor in iPhoto which one gets as part of the apple software. I think there is something in Windows but more than that I cant say.
An image for publication here is about 700 pixels wide.
Hope this helps.
