I dont like putting up problems and getting them diagnosed ,but ,when said car in question is 1200 kms away ,i need all the help.

Jacobs VRX has been performing faultlessly and no dramas.

He has been running mixes of 91/95 and the odd 98.

The fuel he had in his car was Caltex 95 and he filled up in Amberely/Ipswich area the other day with BP 91 and since then ,he has commented that the car feels flat, wont rev cleanly past 3600,etc...

I said it may be just a bad batch of fuel ...any other thoughts

If not for the timing of it, ie. problems started after filling up, I'd be guessing coil. They can be good, then fail suddenly with no real warning. Idles and revs ok, misses and lacks power with a bit of welly, and it's generally quite pronounced. I've never had a dodgy batch of fuel (in a car at least, boats are a different story) so can't really say if that's likely. I guess the only way to eliminate fuel as the fault is to drain the tank, which is a woftam.

Is this when hot and cold or just hot

Best bet if suspected fuel is to drop the fuel filter, put a new one on and then open up the old filter to check condition.

I know its not a Mitsubishi, but had a VERY similar problem with my old mazda
the fuel filter was clogging and the fuel pickup device in the tank was failthy and not getting fuel
maybe similar problem?

Yeah has all the symptoms of a fueling issue.

Issue with replacing a fuel filter is that they're sometimes hell to get off. Especially when you're not going to be in the comfort of your own garage with all your tools.
