I have a 2001 TJ Advance wagon with a failed auto trans. Otherwise car is in great condition at only 160k, fully serviced to log book spec & other upgrades. Registered; not driving well. Quoted $3k+ to replace. Any thoughts?

Too much, you can buy another TJ wagon for that money, or even at TL GTV for that here!

I'd look into a refurbished gearbox, or just one from a wreckers which has a warranty.

Labor should only be $500, seeing as that's what a Midas charged a mate of mine when they replaced his EF's.

The price of the gearbox obviously all depends on the condition and how much you shop around.
