Hello I have a magna verada, it has 380 brakes on front, trans cooler and about 250,000kms, I need to tow my vx roughly 1500kgs to a track which is 30 mins away for an event. I plan on using east link which is a flat road. Can the magna handle it or will the magna end up lifting the front wheels off the ground? Has a heavy duty tow bar aswel

The search bar has many threads about towing small trailers not other cars.

The maximum tow rating for any Magna was 1500kg. If you are using a car trailer they weight about 600kg + the 1500kg car = 2100kg.

I don't think it would be safe and definitley wouldn't be legal. The upgraded brakes make no difference to the towing capacity as any trailer over 500kg would need its own brakes.

There's probably a good reason for this.
Never a good idea to tow the weight of one car with a similar sized car.
Towing a Magna is probably best left to a big SUV like a Pajero with a rating closer to the total load.
Current model has a 3,000 kg towing limit.

Can the Magna do it, yes. Is it legal, no.

Due to time restraints I've needed to tow a Magna wagon with my wagon, it wasn't a pleasant journey and wouldn't do it again.

I've heard stories of Magna bodies actually stretching out when towing over-rating loads. Dunno if it's true but I wouldn't want to ruin my car that way.

When the 380 came out they made menton that side members of the body were strenghtend to better cope with towing.

I put a second hand towbar on my TJ, wasn't impressed with how solid the rails are that it bolted up to.

Then again, the rear ends of most cars are designed to be crumple zones, ie the bum end collapses up to the rear screen in a solid accident to protect the occupants from massive G forces. The two factors aren't compatible, really.

If the trailer has no electrical/Air brakes - you are asking for a big crash.

If the trailer does have brakes you are probably *just* about ok - but you'd best check your insurance.... Can't be worse than the absurd 4x4 ads for 3.5 Ton towing on a 2 ton car....

No, you'd be breaking the law.

Except for the fact those vehicles are designed for towing such heavy loads - Magna's aren't.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll just have to rent a car from thrifty or something as I'm definitely not going to spend 20k on a ute to tow my car to a car event lol
