I have a low mileage TL wagon. Recently had the exhaust system replaced-at least the mid and rear mufflers & connections. Came back with a loud resonance boom at & around 2000 rpm. Went back to supplier who replaced rear with better model. Resonance persists. Anyone with similar experience and resolution?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but pretty sure it's just a Magna thing, almost anything apart from a 100% stock exhaust seem to develop some sort of resonance or drone and it seems to be around 2000-2500, right in the normal driving conditions.. I remember reading a couple of articles about the vrx when it came out and there a few complaints about the stock exhaust having a slight drone at those revs as its a more free flowing muffler.. My exhaust is quite loud however dynamat behind the back seat, parcel shelf and boot seem to reduce it a lot, may even eliminate it on quieter exhausts

Skipped the wagon part sorry ha ha.. Maybe try dynamat a few rear parts to deaden the sound or find a stock exhaust

I have a TL wagon and had the exhaust replaced with a generic one (from Cat back), I don't get any drone or resonance, so you should take it back to the exhaust place.

I have both a TL wagon and TJ sedan, both had their centre and rear sections replaced last year.
I didn't specify make and ended up with Walker and Redback components.
No drone or resonance on the TL wagon, just smooth on both acceleration and cruise. Exactly the same as the original, before it rotted away.
TJ same, just has a nice low rpm growl the original didn't have when I put my foot down.
Have you checked the joints for tightness and the hangers for correct fit?
If the exhaust shop welded in new sections like pipes and mufflers, the problem could be anywhere. Check for clearance with the underbody?
You will find that a lot of places will replace the mid muffler with a resonator/large hotdog instead. Also, the wagon models have a larger rear tri-flow muffler than the standard one on a sedan.
Normally your exhaust would consist of a medium sized muffler in the center, a hotdog after the first couple of bends towards the rear axle, then a larger muffler on the rear. Anything different than this will result in the drone of death, experienced in all autos :P
Solution: Convert to manual of course :D

Changing to a manual is not always the solution (can't belive I just said that, a manual is always the solution ha ha)
I have a manual and it drones a bit, mines probably a little different as I run Two rear straight through mufflers ha ha

I've never owned a car that drones at steady speed.
There is one commodore in the neighbourhood that sounds like a Victa two stroke lawnmower being used in a large drain pipe. Is that drone?
Must be hell for the driver! lol
