View Full Version : Leaking seal at top of driver side window. Wet seat.

When it rains sufficiently I am getting water dripping through the seals near the top of the driver window.

It doesn't come in between the window and seal, but it seems to get into the channel where it appears that two seals meet up?

It then runs to a particular spot where it starts to drip out, landing nicely on the side of the drivers seat cushion.

Getting real annoying and I would love to fix it up, especially before winter hits.

Anyone know the cause and best fix?

Oh yeah, I also get wet carpet on in the drivers side but in rear seat footwell.

Not sure if this is also caused by the same problem, but I am yet to see any clue where this water is coming from.

I'd first try cleaning it out in between the seals and channels. Sometimes blockages from debri can cause water buildup and leakages.

I had this problem years ago with my car on the passenger side. I had forgotten all about it as it stopped without me trying to fix it. The only thing I can think of is I changed the outside trim to chrome ones so maybe that fixed the problem.. Not saying that's what fixed it but it's the only thing I done and it's never given me a problem since

Interesting, cause I have the chrome trims type already.

Makes it hard as I'm not entirely sure how the seals are constructed etc, might have to start pulling apart a bit.

Is it likely I may need new seals altogether??

Most likely won't need new seals unless they are cracked or damaged.. I didn't mean you need to replace yours but the process in replacing the trim I also removed the seal so maybe try just removing both the trim and seal, cleaning and putting it back on will do the trick.. Then get a hose with a fairly decent stream and soak the roof and window for a bit to see if it helped

Also make sure the rear window is properly seated in the upper channel when the window is wound up. If it isn't, it leaves enough gap between the glass and seal to allow water in.

*edit, this may only be relevant for the rear windows.

My rear window started to leak wind but wasn't bad enough to leak water, grab the seal, you can put your fingers into a gap in the fold and gently pull outward, should fix the problem, it happens when someone leans on the seal pushing it inwwards i.e. when cleaning the car.
