2002 Verada GTV
Hey guys, so awhile a go both the TCL light and Anti Lock lights came on. From memory they both went out and a short while later both came on for good (possibly didn't happen like this and we're on the whole time, my memory fails me). I think one time around when it first happened, the TCL light was flashing instead of being on solid for a trip (Anit Lock light always solid). Then went back to being both solid. This was at least 6 months ago. Few days ago, I left an interior light on and drained the battery completely. Chucked a new battery in (so basically had to do a hard reset) and both lights were on solid again. Although today, the TCL light was flashing instead of being solid. I've read through the forums and seen things like battery problem, alternator problem (which it is definitely neither off), both the abs and traction control are working fine. Help appreciated, thanks.

both the abs and traction control are working fine.
How exactly do you know they are working correctly? They can both be off and you would not notice in normal driving.

Well getting on the brakes hard and feeling the thump under the pedal of the ABS kicking in is a good way to tell ;) (ABS def working). But now that you mention it, the amount of wheel spin and axle hop from a standing start with the TCL light flashing compared to the amount of spin when i press the TCL button and it goes solid, is quite hard to differentiate between. Maybe it isn't working. And the brakes are quite low. Could this be two seperate issues? One possibly being the TCL solenoid and one being the Anti Lock coming on due to minimal brakes left? Just a bit of a coincidence as they both came on together.

My 2002 GTV did this when I first got it, the TCL light would come on most trips the whole time, then the engine light would flick on randomly.
I'd suggest replacing the solenoids, as their 12 years old now anyway, mine were basically corroded out from moisture and the engine bay being steam cleaned by the previous owner.
6 months since replacing the solenoids, and no issues to report.

ok thanks. can you remember roughly how much the solenoids cost and from where?

Update: I grounded out the earth pin (pin 1) on the plug under drivers side dash. Turned on ignition and the "Anti Lock" light flashed 14 - "Rear Left wheel speed sensor - open circuit". Then i i turned on engine and the tcl light flashed codes 76 - "ABS Circuit System" and 34 - "rear left wheel speed sensor circuit system". So i'm assuming its going to be a problem with the wheel speed sensor. Possibly a damged cable or problem with the connector causing the open circuit. Any common causes fixes anyone knows off? I've got the car jacked up and having a look as we speak. Cheers.

Mine cost $80 for the two of them fitted from a wrecker, you can get them way cheaper if you just shop around (gumtree etc).

So turns out the rear left speed sensor has a resistance a lot higher than the 1.4K-1.8K ohm resistance as stated. Now i just have to work out the easiest way to get her out haha. Unbolted the single bolt but she doesnt just slide out. Do i need to get a flat blade underneath and try to pry her out or do i have to take off the hub assembly or something stupid like that?

Thanks Johno anyway, but it looks like it's the wheel speed sensor. Cheers.

Actually I do have 1 more question. After disconnecting the wheel speed sensor plug I tried pulling it out back towards the outside of the car. 2 pipes also ran ran through where I was trying to pull it through and the plug would hit on these pipes. It seemed like it was too big so i gave it a yank and the wires pulled out of the plug. Is there an easy way to push the new plug through?

Well don't all be rushing in at once to help out... Got a new wheel speed sensor, chucked her in, all good.

I'd happily give you some advice mate, but I have no idea about this area of electrical issues.

Forgot to give the result. Pulled off a sensor from the wreckers, chucked her on and Bob's your drunk uncle. Easy fix.
