Hi guys,
I have an intermittent problem with my '97 TE Magna 3.0 V6.
Occasionally, after having been run and then stopped for a while, when restarting and pulling off, it will initially pull away fine, then develop power loss and stutter/slightly backfire.
If I bury the throttle it generally clears, or if I knock it into N (she's an auto) and rev it through then it's all fine again.
No problems when cruising at motorway speeds.

I wondered if anyone on here had suffered similar symptoms at all and if so how it was rectified?

Many thanks in anticipation
Regards
Adam

How long since you changed the spark plugs?

I don't know as iv not long owned it.
I bought it from the original owner who had it regularly serviced (it's done 333,000km!)
I kinda figured the plugs must be ok as when it's fine it pulls well and starts no problem, if I can get the tools I'll pull a couple of plugs out to check them, I don't fancy changing the ones in the rear bank, looks awkward!

Also maybe clean the throttle body

Thanks I'll give that a shot too.
It's a funny fault, only occurs after restarting when warm, and only does it a little bit then clears.

$20 its your spark plug leads, or specifically one of. If you remove them all, or start with the front bank ones inspect them closely. Specifically on the spark plug tube end, there is a small crack or a hole where its burnt through the insulation and is sparking to the block.

Had this problem 2 times, once in my magna and once in my mazda. Of course on the magna it had to be on the rear bank...

Thanks i286, I'll check them out... To be fair if I'm taking the inlet manifold off I may as well change the plugs and leads, I priced up a plug set today at Super cheap auto and they were only $30.

You should use genuine leads

Quick update,
Before changing the plugs/leads I thought I'd run some injector cleaner through it, the problem instantly disappeared.
Iv been using the cheapest fuel, the e10 stuff, & have come to the conclusion that the car doesn't like it as I reckon the injector cleaner will have increased the fuels potency in this tankful.

Going to fill up using the better stuff from now on & see what happens.
