I recently purchased this TE Sedan, I noticed that the boot lever under the seat did not work but was still possible to open with a key... Ive been doing some work at the front end and had been keeping parts in the boot. For some reason this mourning the boot had become jammed and cannot turn the barrel with the key. I cannot access the boot threw the rear seat because the LPG tank is right in the way. My only hope at this stage is the spare key which I won't be able to obtain until my brother finishes school. I've tried everything I can to open it without much luck and an extensive Google search found very little results in regards to this situation. I'm hoping someone out there may have a solution to my problem... Thanks for your time

Just a guess here - try pushing down on the boot lid while trying to open it - may take pressure off the boot latch.

Check the lever under the seat again. The cable usually snaps very close to this point.
If you can lift the carpet up and unbolt the lever mechanism you may be able to grab the end of the cable with pliers.
Give it a pull and you should be right. Don't close it again until you have sorted out the cable, the lock barrel or preferably both.
In case you were wondering, it is a bugger of a job to replace the boot release cable!

Thanks for the replies...
I've already tried pushing down on the boot and even lifting it... I've tried so many combinations that have come to mind. The spare key wasn't a success either...
I had also already lifted the carpet and played around with the boot lever and cable. I think I might have broken the cable during my attempt but I'll have to look at it again maybe I can get at it with some pliers...
Convientally I have a wreckers 200m up the road and have 6 magnas there. I was having a look at the lock mechanism and there's a "lock" and "free" function, could this be the cause of my problem?
I'm thinking the only possible chance of me accessing the boot would be threw one of the 6x9" speaker ports and maybe flick the button with a steel rod from lock to free, if that's the problem...

SUCCESS!!! Key ingredient = persistence
I woke up this morning and thought I'm gonna open this boot one way or another, even if I had to angle grind a whole it the boot lid. Fortunately it didn't have to come to that...
I started my investigation by removing the rear seat and popping open the parcel shelf. The speaker cover was preventing me from being able to take the parcel shelf off completely. Having a brake fluid bottle handy I used it to hold up the parcel shelf, upon doing so I noticed a large removable steel plate. It almost looked like a round port for a subby or something, 4 screws and it was removed...
This whole gave me perfect access paste the LPG tank, I had a very clear view of the lock. My first attempt was with a steel coat hanger which was to flimsy for the task. I found a broom handle and taped a drill bit at one end, with this I was able to flick the button from lock to free and the boot open instantly...
Now that I have the lock in the free position I am able to use the boot lever under the drivers seat. But the barrel still will not turn with a key, obviously this will have to be replaced...
I hope this post will help people in the future...

The same thing happened to my with my TJ. the lock on the boot lid moved and the only way I could get it open was by removing that panel behind the rear seat and climbing through into the boot. Why did Mitzi put a lock like that on the boot lid? makes no sense?
