I spotted GSL RallySport on Facebook doing a deal with free king springs with any KYB shocks purchased before tomorrow night.. Thinking of getting my TW Vr-x lowered.
I'm thinking of either going for the Sports low or low. Can someone tell me roughly how much they will lower my car? (I don't want it being too low)
Also do I need to replace anything else when I'm upgrading my stock suspension?
If you want to go lower than VRX (Which is already lower than stock magna anyway), I would look at something else besides off the shelf Kings unless you are after stance/looks and not too concerned about handling/clearance.
I had a Kings/KYB combo on my AWD magna. Kings SL on the front, around 50-55 mm lower & Kings lows on the rear, around 40mm lower and wasn't that impressed with the package.
Had clearance issues, constantly hit the bump-stops as the spring rates were surprisngly soft, the lowering effect increased the negative camber at the back excessively, but the stance did look good though!!!
I personally prefer Lovells or Dobinsons for springs as they are stiffer (and for shocks, KYBs are Ok but Sachs/Boge are a better shock for the Magna).
I ended up swapping over to the Dobinsons VRX and even though they sit taller by around 20mm Front /15mm Rear than the old Kings set up, the handling is better controlled & has better dynamics and I have no clearance issues and no hitting bump-stops anymore.
I know Dobinsons do a Lower spring again for the magna, not sure about Lovells but either will make springs to whatever ride height you specify.

Thanks ADM for your detail response. I was originally going to get dobinsons but saw the deal on the king springs with KYB and thought they are really cheap under $600 shocks and springs.
I thought the SPs are slightly stiffer than the lows.. But in saying that aren't both kings and dobinsons going to be better than stock anyway?
Which dobinsons did you get? I'm a bit confused by the catalogue. Did you get the c43-076?

ADM your situation probably isn't the best judge of King Springs... you are pairing crap springs with a reputation for being too soft (the Superlows) with a very heavy Magna (AWD).
A set of Lows (which are 15mm higher than Superlows AND are a stiffer spring rate) will be a much better spring in any instance, and would not be an issue in a lighter FWD model. A set of Low SPs (which, again, are higher and stiffer than the former) will alleviate the issues further.
If I was being given a brand new set of springs for free I would gladly go for the Kings. For the record I had King Lows on my old VR-X and Dobinsons on my 380, and was reasonably happy with both.
mad-mag I think it will depend exactly how far you want to lower. Low Sports are supposed to be a 30mm drop from factory and Lows are 45mm. You need to keep in mind though that a VR-X is supposed to be around 10mm lower than a standard Magna, and has probably sagged a bit with age too.
While you have your suspension apart I'd replace your bump stops. They are probably already a bit worn due to age, and you may chew through them quicker once lowered.

Thanks Red Valdez.
So I guess roughly the Low SPs will lower the FWD VR-X around 20mm and the Lows will be around 35mm.. I want more stiffer springs and not too low so I guess SPs are good option. The front bumper of the VR-Xs are already low enough and quite long as well so don't want to scrape on everything.
Can someone tell me if $600 for KYB-Excel G and Kings Low SPs (posted) is a good deal?
Also I got a quote from my local suspension shop for $480 fitting with alignment.. which I think its a bit too steep. Can someone give me a rough price I should be looking at for fitting and wheel alignment?
Red, you are aware that a TW FWD VRX such as mad-mag's with all of the additional structural bracing & extra safety equipment it received, even over the TL series means that it near as much weighs the same as the TJ AWD models right?
He would get similar results if he fitted the same combo I had, onto his car.
@ mad-mag, Kings SL on the fronts & Lows on the rear were a very popular combo for many forum members because the stance it offered just suited our cars beautifully. Even if the suspention geometry altered for the worse & had clearance & bump stop issues (yes even the earlier FWD models suffered this - even if it was to a lesser extent) I just wanted to give you the heads up about the drawbacks in going with that combo, that's all.
As Red Valdez mentioned, if you go the SP's you may find that they may not look or even be any lower than what you've got on depending on how much sag your springs have (assuming they are factory VRX originals).
I remember seeing a TJ VRX magna with it's original springs that actually sat lower than my car the day after I had the Dobinsons fitted because of the sag that was on it!
But if you wanted to go with this deal, then Kings SPs would be the best bet as those members that had the SPs fitted were reasonably happy with them.
At least their ride drop is within practical limits & will improve handling without bottoming out everywhere or hitting the bump stops.
$600 delivered is a very good package deal for a KYB/Kings combo but saying that the King Springs are free as part of the package is B/S though. Mine cost $680 which included 4 new bump stops, though that was 3 years ago @ trade price.
Personally though, I'd rather pay a little extra & get the Lovells or Dobinsons with the Boge/Sachs dampers. Regardless of what anyone says, they are a better spring/shock combo than any off the shelf Kings/KYB for magnas.
I was charged $250 for fitting of springs & shocks with wheel alignment.
I agree that $480 is too much. Around the $250-300 ball park would be more realistic.

Can someone tell me if $600 for KYB-Excel G and Kings Low SPs (posted) is a good deal?
Definitely... I just paid $550 or so off fleabay for a set of Excel-Gs for my 380 with no springs.
I also paid about $1200 for King springs/Excel-Gs/alignment/labour/alignment back on my old TJ... but that was in a regional area so I definitely paid the premium there.
Also I got a quote from my local suspension shop for $480 fitting with alignment
I paid $350 with an alignment from a local mechanic for my 380.

I thought TL added around 30kg, and AWD added around 100kg?

I find king sps too soft on my TJ AWD always hitting on the front
