Hey guys
I noticed my TL has been running very hot very quickly.
I took it on its first proper drive in a month or two (was impounded) the other night and noticed was pumping out heat from everywhere, i could even feel it coming under the dash (without feet warmers on )

I had to open the bonnet every stop on the cruise to let it cool. Although the temp gauge was still on half.
It's strange as its never ran this hot or anything. I noticed the other day after a 2 minute drive it was as hot as it would be after an hours drive?

Not sure if just paranoid or what aha?

Thanks guys

Have you checked your coolant levels, if the cooling system in pressurized?

Yeah all mint, just had a coolant flush etc. It's had immaculate service history by mitsubishi, they charge to much for a checkup though. lol.

Just had a coolant flush? Possibly a blockage somewhere, or the thermostat is getting stuck shut or only partially opens.

If you replace the thermostat yourself, you could try a good quality high flow one. We have a climate here that a high flow one is more suitable (at least, presumably). So, replace thermostat, reflush, and fill with a good coolant. The penrite coolants are the latest tech, and is suitable for all the Magna's and 380's.

Premix (50 percent coolant/50 percent distilled water):

Concentrated (mix to 50 percent with distilled water):

The premix makes more sense to use.

The other possibility is that your water pump is cactus.

If the temperature gauge is not going above half way, and the radiator cap isn't venting steam (which I assume you would have mentioned if it was), how do you know it's running very hot? Is it running like crap? A modern engine should be just about as hot after 2 minutes as after an hour if the thermostat is working properly. Maybe one or both of your thermo fans isn't working (fuse, relay, etc) making the engine bay hotter than usual but that should be obvious when you pull over and open the bonnet and leave the engine idling, as the temp gauge will rise and the fans will be conspicuously still. Maybe there's just something wrong with your heater baffles and it's heating the cabin despite the settings?

30% is the mix you need ...water is the coolant

Traditionally 25-30 percent was recommended, but now they recommend 50 percent. The extra coolant won't really affect the temperature too much, and supposedly it's better for corrosion prevention and all the other stuff that coolant does. It's why the Penrite premix is 50 percent and they recommend diluting the concentrate to 50 percent. I guess if you mixed it to less that 50 percent you wouldn't get 350,000 KM or 6 years out of it. Traditional coolant is typically 2 years or 3 years at best if at 50 percent (and certainly not 350,000 km).

I noticed something dodgy is up, whilst turning a corner the temp gauge went to just over half and when i straightened up it went back to half again.
I'll be putting it into mitsubishi this week.

Are BOTH fans working?
