Second post for the day but rather ask magna owners than $70 for an answer from a mechanic aha.
For a while now my magna brakes have been not very good, last time i got it serviced it passed the brake test but now they're even worse. The brake peddle feels like its riding on sand paper, no noise or anything whilst braking.
I almost had an accident trying to brake heavily because the brake peddle popped back up and didnt allow me to brake. It was like a air bubble or something, i had to take my foot off and on again to get them to work. ABS failure or?
Thanks

Go and get them looked at by a Brake Professional, $70 versus smashing the car?

If you can do the brakes yourself, check the pads and rotors, then do a full brake flush. It kind of sounds like you could possibly have air in the brake system, so a full flush will be necessary.
Ideally use Super DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 brake fluid (Penrite, Supercheap Auto brand etc). DO NOT use DOT 5 or 5.2, they are completely different and not compatible.

You may need new pads and possibly rotors. The sandpaper feeling you describe sounds like pads are worn down to the metal backing plate.
If you aren't able to diagnose brake problems yourself, or can't tell if brake parts are good or not, and can't tell if the ABS is working correctly, you best take it to someone who can.
A lot of car problems need a test drive and a close up eyeball of the car - both things are impossible to do on a forum.
You could always pull the wheels off and look at the brakes yourself? Not too hard to see if pads are worn down and discs scored without going any further. There should be tools like a jack in the boot of the car somewhere. lol
Post pictures perhaps?

Yeah but that will cost money! ($70 quoted by OP).
Only option really, if he can't look himself.
Maybe he is hoping some local member will come and have a look for free?

Apart from the adjustment of the rear handbrake there is nothing special about servicing brakes on a Magna. Like others have said any decent mechanic should be able to do it. I found with changing to HPX pads I had squeel that could only be cured by using that tacky paste on the back of the pads. Never a sound with the original pads.

This has me confused for a couple of reasons. How does the brake pedal pop back up while you're stomping on it? Surely you'd have to take your foot off for the pedal to pop back up. Secondly, the "didn't allow me to brake" statement needs clarification. Was the pedal rock solid and wouldn't press down, was it so soft it hit the firewall without effect, or did it somehow repel your foot? If you had an air bubble in the fluid the pedal would feel spongy as the air compresses like a spring.
Unless you are familiar with brakes or can get someone who is to help you, I would strongly recommend taking it to any decent mechanic or a brake specialist, since brakes are kinda important in staying alive. They are not worth messing with if you are not confident, and ignoring issues with them is definitely not a good idea. $70 is dirt cheap compared to a even a minor bingle if it's because your car is unroadworthy.

Have you something under the brake pedal?

First time you meet the ABS in action it feels like the pedal is trying to push up - which it is. The wheels don't lock up which can suggest to some the brakes aren't doing the right thing.
What we have here is someone unknowing about how ABS feels, and brakes in general.
But unless the OP comes back, this thread is dead. (Hey, that rhymes!)

Fair enough. ABS feels more like a kind of vibration to me, but I guess that's one explanation.

What a load of rubbish. His only option, if he can't afford $70 to get it diagnosed, is to sell the car.
Car ownership comes with certain responsibilities and they cost money.
I drive around with two toddlers in my car. I certainly hope they don't become victims of someone who doesn't take the responsibility of fixing their obviously non-roadworthy car.
If you can't afford to maintain your car, you can't afford to own a car.
$70 is less than a tank of fuel. If you can afford to fill it up, you can afford to get the brakes assessed.

I was hoping to encourage the OP to have a look, possibly take some pictures and post them here, but he seems to be absent from this thread.
Possibly busy trying to find a cheap (free) mechanic, or working on the car, or busy selling it? lol
Or possibly just trolling.

to the OP
mida's do a brake flush and a brake condition report for $65. money well spent in my opinion
as brake fluid should be changed every 2 years.
i took my magna in to get done during the week as mine was approaching that time limit..
no problems to report with their work. and the pedal feel improved.

I know ABS, i have ves, they stop within meters doing 70+ but the magna is a different story.

I've had friends look and they said the pads are fine, they said probably air in the system.
Also i can afford to run the car, im currently running two VES, trying to fix an excel, build a ve drift car and run this magna as well.
The magna has been in the family since show room, so i'm not selling it, i remember choosing it with my dad when i was little haha.
Thanks
